Just been out today for the first time since August last year to do a dressage class at our local riding club. We did prelim 13 and as there were only 3 classes today we had 23 people in the class! But long story short, my clever little boy got 58.75% and we came 6th! I was so proud of him, we have had him 5 years this year and when we got him I couldn't ride, and he'd been broken in for 3 months, he couldn't canter in an arena and even trotting circles in a balanced manner was quite hard for him! We beat lots of big horses and people we know who are very good riders, so needless to say I was chuffed

self indulgent I know, but its so nice to be able to go out and come back with a rosette, when a couple of years ago he never got placed. We even got a 'nice outline' comment! yay!

Well done you!
6th out of 23 is pretty impressive - I'd be very chuffed if I did that well.
You have obviously worked hard with him - onwards and upwards now then!

He's coming along very slowly, he really is like a child having an 'I don't want to and you can't make me' paddy at times, it's very frustrating when I know how good he can be. But I'm sure we'll get there eventually.

I'm very jealous of you as Coco is just as gorgeous as Fudge but seems to try so much harder to please you.... I don't suppose you fancy trading horses?

ohhh I know that feeling, Coco used to be like that when he was younger but as he's matured he's realised that what I'm asking isn't hard and that it can actually be quite fun (shhhh though!). Just know you both have all the time in the world to improve and take it slowly, he'll get there in the end

and hehe no, Coco is mine forever now

sorry! but I'd have fudge as well, he's so gorgeous!

she did really well, got 57.something and was around 8th I think, but q had a bit of trouble with her canter too, both of the numpties decided they couldn't canter on the right leg in their tests! lol she seemed quite happy though, and it was really nice to see them again. I was really supprised to see q going in a nice outline, I haven't seen her do that before, h's clearly been working hard on it!

Although it was an awful thing to happen (HD's accident) Q benefitted from it greatly because Tracey P rode her whilst HD was banned, and continues to school her once a week. H is also continuing lessons with GW and they are coming on together in leaps and bounds - canter is the last thing to sort (same with all three of us I think!)

yeah, she said tracey had been schooling her, and you can see it in her trot, although she's not in a consistant outline, it's really coming along isn't it! and h hadn't really worked on it before so over one winter q's come on a huge amount. her mum seemed very happy to tell us that the jumping had become a lot more controlled, and bless h I think she's amazingly brave to be riding again, let alone jumping. yes, I think joint canter lessons may be the order of the day! lol hopefully I can get keely to work on that with us, she's a trainer at our yard who has competed internationally and we clicked with her much more than with gw, she doesn't laugh at us

you and dd should come and join in the lessons!

how is he?

It is nice when you click with an instructor and am glad you seem to happy in the new place!

DD is very well indeed - before Christmas we had RM out to deal with his lifting the leg problem which is now sorted would you believe - what a brilliant man!!

We have been up to Thetford forest on a couple of outings which he absolutely loved and he was a really good boy - although a little excited at times.

His school work is really starting to come together - walk and trot work is wonderful - we are nearly always now working in a good outline. The canter is coming together nicely - slowly but nicely - but any quick fix does not last!!

I have had him a year now and I really cannot believe it. We have worked so hard together (Tracey and I) to get him right after all his treatment and he is now a happy horse in the school willing (nearly always) to work correctly. Hopefully we will get out soon and do some competitions - but I have to say if I never entered a dressage arena with him it would not bother me - I know how much difference I have made to this horse (bit big headed I know but as I said to myself the other day - no one else has done it!) and that is all that matters to me!!

That is wonderful Tracey, well done

I'm so pleased for you, after all the trouble you've had with previous ponies, and with him at the start. It's so satisfying to know it was you who made the difference, who taught them and bought them on. Well done

I didn't see you ride him very much when I was there and the bits I saw were not in an outline so that is a great achievement in a few months! and I'm glad he's healthier and happier now, it makes all the difference. I'd love to see you come out, I'm sure you'd both excel and end up afflitiated before you knew where you were

have you jumped him yet?
