Hi Everyone!

Looking for some tips on how to save my boys mane this winter.
As soon as the full neck rugs come out the bottom half of his mane falls out

I have tried loads of mane and tail so the rug slides on it, platting it but neither has worked before. He now has some mane grown back from last year and hoping to keep it this year as looking to show next season and ideally don't want to resort to buying fake mane/plats

I am thinking about buying the lycra hoods do these work any experience with these? ATM he is in his full neck at night and standard in the day to give his mane some air but not sure this will work all winter!

So any ideas or tips please? Thanks

to save the mane ditch the mane and tail spray makes the mane brittle! and ditch the full neck or half neck rugs. get a well cut traditional neck rug and deal with the mud. the mane falls out with full neck rugs (on most horses) as the hair follicles just get too hot and hence the gentle but thorough shedding of mane! you try wearing a warm woolly hat 24/7 for a week yes your hair will thin too!!

It's the heat that makes the mane fall out so I'm afraid there is little you can do, being hot opens the pores and the mane rubs on neck rug and falls out.

Only way to stop it is no neck rug.
