haven't ordered a rug yet and my friend whose horses live out said not to waste my money on the one I was going to buy as I do need more than one she says all hers wear saxon rugs and they are great I'm not so sure??

what do you think??

they're fine if you don't want a deep rug - that's my only issue with them - they look like mini skirts on wider horses!!! lol
other than that - they do what they say on the tin all fine and good

Micah is quite fine and needs somethign that won't slip down his shoulders he is so narrow so sounds good. I can always buy better rugs in the future but I need a few really

I have had them in the past and they are a good economy rug, as another poster as mentioned they are not generous with the depth and my cob looked like she had a mini skirt on. But she has got a bit of a belly like most cobs.

and as for a load of rugs cheap - ebay - i've bought all my horses's rugs 2nd hand from there - just be careful you see a good piccie and that it's been cleaned and you can get some real bargains - most of mine had been bearly used and i got them for all less than half price (i'm the queen of bargains

ditto this...
or equestrian car boots. x

I wouldnt put one on a horse that lives out all the time. The ones I've had in the past were not as weather proof as I would have liked. The 600 denier ones rip as easily as paper too so go for something a bit stronger. They're cheaper for a reason???

i love my saxon rugs, my lightweights are on their 3rd winter with not a rip on them and they havnt been re proofed,

I also have 2 meduim weight combos that are saxon and they too are great, 4 years, no rips and no leaks.

This summer mine had on the lightweights and where the only horses on my yard that came in dry - all the others in Amigos, mark todd and shires lightweights were sopping wet ubder their rugs.

yeah i've got one and its absolutely fine. Ironically I really like them BECAUSE they aren't deep

My 13.2hh needs a 5ft 6 and this is the only one that doesn't fit him like a dress

I bought a lightweight one 3 years ago for occasional use to keep a grey clean before competitions.
It's seen heavy use practically ever since, been through the washing machine twice with biological clothes washing liquid, never been reproofed, never slips, and although I use a bossy's bib under it, could probably get away without. It's a decent depth on my TBx, never tried the heavier styles though. Probably the best horsey £24 I've ever spent!

My Sec B came with a Saxon 1200D medium weight combo & she lived out in it last winter. It lasted really well & didn't even need cleaning at the end of the season. They're Weatherbeater's economy range.

Saxon are decent quality, but come up small and they're very shallow. I don't use mine much becuase it's not deep enough and, but it's perfect as a back up, so that I can give my others an extra day to dry out if they've been subjected to a day of torrential rain.

They are very good value for money, my horse freaks at things touching him just above the hocks and around the stifle, so saxons being shorter are ideal for him.

Hate them! Too short, ride up as they are darted strangely, and just odd rugs! Didnt fit my ISH at all, and his 6'3 got passed onto my cob who was normally a 5'9 in rugs, and it just about fit him ok!! MUCH prefer the amigo 1200's instead.

I love them, the fit's really good for mine. His 1200 turnout (£47) is going into its 3rd (or possibly 4th) winter without reproofing - I've just bought a neck cover for it lol - and without him wrecking it (unlike the £110 FalPro one that he demolished repeatedly

Have also got a 180g Saxon stable rug, which I really like.

I bought one as a spare and it is a great rug - use it all the time!
It's only a LW cheapy but has never let in any rain (Even in these recent downpours!) and all the stitching, buckles etc are like new - not like my DH and Masta rugs which just fell apart!
I don't mind the fact it's not deep - suits my horses fine.
Good value for money rugs - especially if, like you say, you need more than one.

Haven't liked the ones I've seen as they're very shallow and not cut to shape in the same way that the more expensive ones are.

They're the Weatherbeeta economy range.
