'm just about to buy a saxon 600 combo but need to know what the sizing is like compared to a rambo. (I've tried other makes that just don't fit!)
Last rug was a 5'6 rambo which fitted well (but has given up the ghost).

I bought one as a spare spare for my big mare. She wears a 6'9 in a fal and the 7'0 saxon is way too small. They are not at all deep either, even a 5'9 on my 13.2 only just covers his belly!

Hi found the sizing on these rugs to be fine my mare wears a 6ft3 in all her rugs including the saxon, only thing i would be cautious is around the shoulders, if really wide around shoulders dont think it would suit.

would agree they're a bit on the small side, but as they're cheap, you could always get a chest expander?

Unfortunately the expensive ones are the ones that usually fit! I find Mark Todd ones fantastic.

I tried a robinsons one on Murph - it didn't fit. Come to think of it tho - he does have a shires rug. I use it as a spare - it's a tight fit but it does fit him. He has a waetherbeeta stable rug, that just about fits - but neither the shires or the wb fitted in the summer when he was fatter.

Although - do bear in mind that Murphy is EXTREMELY chunky!!!

I bought a masta fleece and lightweight turnout for my section D this winter. They were not too expensive and seem quite good quality. The metal rings to reinforce the holes on the straps have come off but the straps seem fine without.

The Saxon rug I bought lasted just 3 days and then pony came in looking like she'd had a fight with a tiger!! It was hanging in shreds, but she didn't have a mark on her so assume it wasn't caused by wildlife !!!

I've got/had many other makes of rugs and she's never got ripped any of them anywhere near to this extent.

It did bag out at her shoulder but slip back behind her withers however tight you did the front straps, so gave that up as a bad job and bought a better make.

I have a pretty deep chested NFx mare who is also a yob when it comes to rugs.

The only ones I've found to survive her attacks & not rub her shoulders bare/go tight restricting her movement are the Rhino Wug range. I bought her the half neck one & got it in the sale for about £70 I think. Usual price is usually around £100 so far as I know. It's lasted her three winters now & has only needed repairing on the lining where it's rubbed on the shoulders.

Not only does it not rub but it also fits really snugly, doesn't move through all her mud rolling/bucking fits & the straps are really easy to do up & get on/off (even with fidgety pony & cold fingers)

I can't praise them highly enough & honestly would not buy anything else as it is just false economy. The outer shell is really tough & has no back seam so no risk of leaks. I LOVE it!

I don't rate Robinsons rugs really & again, find Saxon too tight on the shoulders/generally small fit.

This is the one I got her & I wouldn't hesitate in buying another

Hope that helps a little!

I have the Saxon LW in a 6ft for my mare and it's tiny on her. She's a TBx and very fine but it hardly covers her belly! The chest is fine on her tho.
