scabby armpits???

Noticed when grooming my horse today he was really enjoying it while I was rubbing his armpits/behind his elbow area. As I was scratching, I noticed some little scabs coming off? He's out of work atm so I'm ruling out sweat scald or girth rubbing, has anyone experienced this? Could it mites?

Mud fever from laying down on damp ground. Well, the beginnings of mud fever, no need to panic or get the vet just treat it.

Should I clip away hair directly by his armpit and treat area with hibi scrub? Or something along those lines?

I hate hibiscrub. I'd get the scabs off and treat the area with a suitable cream. Repeat the process every time the cream wears off, until its healed. If it keeps recurring then use the cream on healed skin as a preventative. If you do a search on here there's loads of threads about mud fever, if you want more advice. Different people have different ideas on how best to treat it and different things work for different horses.
