i have posted on here a few times about my cushings pony, she had very flakey skin a month or so ago but that seems to be clearing up after introducing micronised linseed. however, now i have found lumps on her back, over her rump and on her thigh. they are crusty and come off when i pick them leaving the skin visible, skin that is sore. she is currently in a 100g rug that is new, i am sure she is not too hot as i was going to put a bigger rug on her this evening but these lumps seem to appear where her rug lies - they are not on her neck, face, legs etc. i have put some antibacterial cream on them today. does anyone have any ideas what they are and how i can get rid of them? please
thank you :)

Is it itchy?

Could be a bacterial skin infection, you may need to give your vet a call to get some cream and maybe a wash.

thank you for your replies. i can;t not rug her - its too cold at night! yes, it appears to itch her and having looked into it more i am wondering if she has ringworm:( i would love to give her a good bath but again its too cold for this as she lives out, i have clipped a small area today and washed it with hibiscrub and put some sudocreme on - but there are so many areas i would have to blanket clip her to treat the lot. think i may have to ring the vet as it seems to be spreading - fast :(

could be ring worm, they peel off leaving pink sore skin underneath

I would get some athletes foot cream or spray and see what happens

funny I just did the same reply to another thread

It is the time of year ring worm seems to pop up a lot because of the lack of sun and rugging

Funny because my horse has this at the moment too. He is really itchy and I find small yellow crusty areas on his back and bum mainly. I have been putting anti-fungal cream on these areas which then seem to heal, but then scab over and then when the scab comes off all his hair comes off too leaving a small bald patch.

Does this sound like ringworm or a skin infection? Can horses still get ringworm if they are up to date with wormers?

i have rung the vet and they seem to think its possibly rain scald, i have a medicated shampoo to wash her in 2-3 times a week for next two weeks. my thoughts are its some sort of skin infection, i am sure i have not over rugged her as she is only in 100g rug and does not always feel warm, i was going to put a bigger one on her! i do wonder if its ringworm, but i have two horses and the other one is fine. she is going to really enjoy her bath tomorrow :( she is having micronised linseed already :) thank you :)
