Scabby ears....

Hi all,

Wondered if you could help.

My nearly 3 year old border collie has developed scabs all over one of his ears, it's gotten so bad that the ear looks almost bald. I've never seen it before and he's always had very good skin. Any idea what it could be?

I was thinking of washing it with a surgical shampoo, as it's anti- fungal, do you think this would be ok?

I think he should go to the vet before it got totally bald, ideally.
It is probably an allergy or an infection triggered by an allergy.

Thanks, I'll have to register as we just moved but there's one in the village, hopefully nothing too serious!

It should be easy enough to treat (there's a good wash called EpiOtic) and sorry to sound blunt but I have a dog with ear issues and it is much easier to nip in the bud and stop at source rather than go back and have to fight it when the infection is established and it can make them really miserable x
