Scabby legs - HELP

My horse is a hairy cob with white, feathery socks on back legs. I cannot get rid of the scabs that keep appearing on the back of his legs. I have cut the feathers off, got rid of the scabs and treated with sudocreme, flamazine from vet, and aromaheel. They go away but then they come back a couple of weeks later.

Does anyone have any ideas on what to try now?

The vet thought mud fever so we've treated for that, another vet thought mites. No swelling or heat and don't seem to bother him.

my cob has tiny scabs on his legs when i dont clip his legs.

think most cobs are like this i know a few that have scabs on their legs, i would suggest keeping the legs clipped and dry and just keep trying lotions.

Can try pig oil & sulphur, its what the heavy horse breeders use. If you do a search on ebay I would think you would find it

My cob has a constant scabby patch on the back of his knees-vet gave me rainscald powder which helped hugely. I was advised to clip the area, keep as clean as possible and apply the powder.

I've used Wondergel with limited success.

The Dectomax injection helped to stop him stamping/rubbing but I don't think it's mites causing this. I was told to use ph neutral soap to wash the scabs off and this has probably been the most helpful thing so far.

Hi there. My cob had the same thing last year. Tried sudocrem and flamazine as I thought it was mud fever. Turned out to be mites, sprayed feathers with Frontline and repeated 10 days later. Scabs have gone and haven't had any problems since then. She started itching her feathers again last week so have reapplied the Frontline.

Leg mites as most cobs get them. Sulphur and pig oil will help once you have the mites under control. All sulphur and pig oil does is add moisture to the legs as the mites live off dry dead skin.

Mites live in hay, straw and grass.

I believe the injection already mentioned does work well for most cases.
