Blues got a scabby leg. Started about 6 weeks ago when she was on box rest while Aiiro's leg was bandaged up. Started as a few little scabs on the near hind at hock level. Didn't stress too much, hoped it would clear up once she started to go out again. There was no change. We decided it might be mites or a form of rain scald so applied camrosa which has worked a treat on all our others (no harm in trying right?) so anyway, the scabs pretty much cleared up. Then last week we noticed that all around the area the camrosa was (beyond where it had been applied) there were new scabs. The camrosa then had no effect on these so we tried something for mites but everyday its spread further up/down/around the leg. Theres no bleeding just very hard scab like things that look abit like rain scald. Thinking this is a vet job but would be interested to know whethere anyone has an idea what it is at all. Its the only leg affected aswell. It isnt showing on pictures as its all beneath the fur. Nothing else in the herd has anything like this. Any ideas or suggestions guys? :/

Earlier this year, I cleared up a bilateral case of scabby armpits (on Star, not me :D ) using Hibiscrub shampoo and Fungatrol ointment. Took about 4 days.

Wash with Nizoral - it sounds like it is definately fungal - the classic sign is the appearance of scabs beyond the original area.

You can buy Nizoral from the chemist. Dilute with hand hot water and lather up well working well into the affected area and also well beyond it. You can leave it on to dry - works better that way.

I would be inclined to wash the whole leg thoroughly.
