"Scabby" pink snip?

I have a bay TB who has a very small pink snip on the end of her nose. This week it has developed a crusty scab. I once had a grey with a pink nose that had exactly the same thing, and at the time put it down to hog weed. But I can find no trace of hog weed in my field and wonder if it could be some other weed. I have buttercup and cow slip to name a couple, or could it just be sunburn. However, we haven't had much sun in the last week and when we did have a lot of sun, there was no sign of any burning. Anybody got any ideas. I am treating it with aloe vera at the present.
 
My guess would be the buttercups. My coloureds nose does the same thing

Almost certainly buttercups.
MSM ointment, petroleum jelly, sudocreme, udder cream (!) and then childs sunblock when it's cleared up coz it'll be extra sensitive from now on...
If she gets fussy when you're putting it on try getting someone to hold a carrot at the same time?
 
Thanks for that advice. Although the occurance of buttercup is very small. I guess sudacreme will help as a block from further contamination?
 
Sods Law probably applies - if there's one flower, they'll find it!!
Hopefully... I guess like everything else, you'll experiment a bit and find what works for you two.
 
I find at the start of the spring when their noses are still quite furry they don't get burned very easily, but now when the winter coat has come out but they haven't "toughened up" they burn very easily.
 
Post above is correct. Buttercups are NOT a cause of dermatological problems. Sunburn IS. I suggest Factor 30.

The fact that only the snip is involved should indicate that it is not due to contact with an irritant as the whole nose would be involved in this case.

If it persists see your vet.

Bert gets it really bad. I cover him with an equine suncream (the name escapes me) in a black tub with orange label and it is fab. Not only is it thick enough not to come off but it also heals any burns/cuts and dryness already there.
 
Thanks for all the advice everybody. I have been treating it for over a week now, and it certainly seems to be getting better. I see what you are saying about the rest of her nose being affected if it was buttercup, and also she has a white sock, so i would of thought that would be affected too. So in future i will have to whatch out early on in the season and cover up her snip! Thanks for all your advice once again.
