my horse had a bit of a scabby rash inbetween her front legs and i didnt think anything of it but now it has spread all over her shoulders on both sides and seems to be slowly spreading up her neck and her stomach. Its really irratating her, she keeps scratching it and has rubbed loads of her hair off. I recently clipped her before the rash started spreading and i have recently put a heavier rug on her and shes been getting a bit hot sometimes, also she is allergic to mollasis but she has not had any that i know of. dont know if any of this helps, but if anyone knows what this could be and what i should give her to help please say, thanks :)

Could be a reaction to the change of seasons grass? What do you feed her? Many of the commercial feeds contain molasses so she might accidentally be getting it into her system. Have you changed her feed recently? If it is fungal (espeically ringworm) you would have caught it by now as it is highly contagous but it might be worth trying an antifungal shampoo. Also - you say you changed her cover to a warmer one - the cover could have had something on it that caused the rash so might be best to disinfect it plus her grooming brushes :)

she does have very sensitive skin so it may be the rug, i feed her allen and page fast fibre and dengie hi-fi molasses free, so she has no molasses in her diet but she did have a lick out of one of the other horses bowls the other day. i cant get the vet out as she is not my horse i just ride her for someone who doesnt really know about horses and wont get the vet out unless the horse is really ill, she wont listen to me, so is there any antihistamine or anything i could give her to releave the itching?

There are antihistamines for horses available - but you can only get them from the vet. Is it possible that she goes without a cover for a while so that you can see if it is the rug? Or can you change the cover? Maybe you could just give the vet a ring and talk to them about it. There might be a shampoo they suggest. If the rash doesn't clear in a week talk to the owner again or you might have to get the vet out yourself. Ypu could go to a pharmacy and ask if there are any antihitamines you could use for an animal - just a larger dose. The only problem is that antihistamines are for short term allergies - if you don't know whats causing the rash it's a waste of time

just tell the owner it needs a vet, and ask her to call you when he is coming!
