Scabby Tail

I noticed a sore under my pony's tail today - about the size of a 50p piece, and also next to his bottom - possibly where the sore has stuck to his skin.

Strangely my friends horse who is at another stables has exactly the same thing and is desperate to itch!

Any ideas???

Bit of a gross suggestion, but are they groomed under their docks daily?

I have seen horses get a bit sore there because a flake of poo has got stuck there, and when the poo came off so did the top layer of skin.
