scabby tummy - treatment??

My 31yo veteran has developed 2 scabby patches under his tummy. Down the "centre line as it were"; one set just in front of sheath and about 3inches long and another where the girth would sit (though he's not warn a girth for at least 5 years).

There is one largish scab (prob the size of a tiny pea) in the patch near the sheath.

Have been applying veterinus herbal gel stuff morning and night for a couple of days now and seems a bit better, but can anyone suggest what the cause might be or anything that may aid recovery better?

All 3 of mine have had the patches you describe just over their belly buttons in the midline - don't know why but it's where flies like to feed - I've had to smother their midlines in a fly gel or similar twice a day since the sun came out to stop them getting bitten and kept the boys pretty clean just in case it was smelly bits attracting the little bloodsuckers.

I clean scabby areas with antiseptic diluted in water the dry then plaster on gel.

Love the sunshine just hate the flies

My mare has been nibbled by the flies just in front of her teats too. Just cleaned it up and used fly gel.

I've been using the Gold Label Wondergel for scabby bits recently. It seems to have worked brilliantly.

MY old gelding also gets this every summer. It's those pesky flies!
I smear fly cream, it's a thick yellow paste, all over his tummy and bits. The flys wont go near it all day and I have one happy horse.

Our current horses aren't affected, but in the past we've used Udder Cream (designed for cows but works on horses too - very effective, and available at reasonable price in big feed merchants or like). As Jonesey in Dad's Army used to say "[the flies] don't like it up 'em!"

Lots of buttercups seemed to give my horse a scabby face (better now removed from that field) - cleaning off gently & something creamy like Aloe Propolis Creme worked.

I might try udder cream first as it's already in my stock of armaments!!
