After a visit to RVC Potters Bar my arab mare’s scabby white legs have been diagnosed as immune reaction triggered by possibly sunlight but no certainty (immune mediated vascilitus). She is in during the day and now on pentoxyfilline drug. Bad news is that though currently only 1 leg affected every other day it swells and gets angry looking and she goes on antibiotics a couple of times a month. It is getting very worrying as she is superb ride and temperament and the future seems very uncertain. Any positive feedback would be really appreciated.

My friend's horse had this terrible a few years back and she had a terrible time with it. It is luckily that you have dealt with it early since her gelding ended up with sceptacaemia. Like your mare, it was a very scary time.

Positive feedback - he recovered well and he still lives out 24/7 and she controls it using turnout chaps and a barrier cream. He has never suffered with it since. Keep us updated!

Do you use wormers with Ivomectin in them? Had a horse that had a very bad photsensitisation to it. Being a skewbald she reacted really badly - had scabs all over her white areas.

We were able to cover her and after a dose of antibiotics she came right. We stopped using Ivomec based wormers on her.
