Scabs/Sores on Taze's back legs

Any advice appreciated. I wen't to Taze today and he has really bad scabs/weeping sores over his back legs. I know 100% they weren't there on Monday as that's when the farrier came out and they weren't there. His right leg is worse than his left but only marginally.

I soaked his tail in baby oil on Wednesday and brushed it threw so I know they weren't there then.

Now i'm about 90% sure they weren't there yesterday, the only reason I say i'm not 100% as it was raining pretty bad but i'm SURE i would have seen it.

Since I put it on on Wednesday it hadn't rained until Friday night. Now could it be that the rain made the baby oil run from his tail onto his legs and he's had a really bad reaction? Iv'e never used it before but have never heard of baby oil doing anything like that! I feel totally awful.

I hosed down his legs and rubbed them with a towel. I didn't know what to put on them encase it was the baby oil and there is something in it that could be in other things. I'm going to start using Hypocare tomorrow to try and sooth them.

I also wondered if it could be leg mites? But previously to this there has been no itching and its literally come up overnight. Could mites work that fast and with no symptoms before?

I did use deosect the other day but didn't put much on his legs but if it was a reaction to that surely it would have come up in other places than his back legs?

Anyone any ideas? I feel awful

Are they like raised scabs? If so probably rain scald/mud fever....they are very similar....feed extra copper and puff on a 50/50 mixture of black wound powder and flowers of sulphur, 2ce a day for 3 days then 1ce a day for 3 days...the rain/dew/hose will then wash off the scabs leaving nice healthy pink skin!! Of course it could be something else entirely but I think this would probably be the commonest scenario!! Good luck!
