Hii had a girl apply for sharer to help me exercise the horses... anyway she came down today with her mum and they turned up with two others in the car that were a bit rude/off putting and i didnt get a nice feel... the girl seemed nice but her mum wanted my bank details to pay for the share as she wants in "tracable" they are new to the area from london...and alarm bells are ringing for me! i mean they could say that the money was for one of my horses in installments or anything...am i being "over the top" ?? I am new to this so i hope i have posted in the right place:/

Well I am a total cynic so I would probably be wary. However if she wants to pay by direct debit she'll need your details. Personally I would not do it !

yeah i just got bad vibes and obviously i dont know them from adam...so pretty much decided its a no no but wasnt sure if i was being over cautious ...thankyou

I've had several sharers and never had anyone put money in the bank. For one thing depending on your tax bracket etc it could be seen as another income that you'd be expected to pay tax on rather than the contribution to costs that it actually is. I would refuse it on this principle and if you aren't sure about the people then say no. You don't have to have anyone you're unsure about, I certainly didn't. If you think the girl herself might be ok ask her to spend some time there without the friends before you decide. Good luck. :)

thats very true about the income... also the girl is not meant to be riding ever as she had a back injury...i have said about insurence but no i am just not happy about the whole situation

Another go with your gut believer here!!

If alarms bells ring, don't go there. There will be plenty of others who would love a share.

It would be unfortunate if said girl was genuine, however no one can blame you for being careful.

If she has an injury, and isn't supposed to be riding, I wouldn't touch her.
When you do get a sharer, they may want to pay you into a bank, although I would avoid this, doubt the tax man would look at it as income, otherwise you could make your horse tax deductable.
However, make sure you get a contract, stating that they have insurance, understand the inherent risks, and who is responsible for what, especially if they will be doing the horse completly on certain days.
With people who come to look, go with your gut, I always have when putting ponio out on loan, or having a sharer for him.

I pay for my share through bank transfer, surely you can't do much with that information other than pay money in! Anyway turning up with 3 other people is a bit rude in itself so if you didn't get good vibes you don't need another reason!

If it is only the bank details that are worrying you then I would say for her to have a trial and pay by cheque or cash and then if the arrangement suits you both give the bank details. I have had sharers pay that way before. If however, you are getting bad vibes about them for other reasons or just something you cannot put your finger on, then don't go ahead with the share.

I agree with mandwhy I don't think they can do anything with your bank details.

I agree with Wagtail that a trial is a good idea if you are on the fence and I'd either give a free trial or ask for cash upfront.

Longer term, if money is changing hands, I'm an untrusting sole so personally I would have a contract saying who is responsible for what and when they can ride and both sign up to it. You can put into the contract about her having her own rider insurance and that she must wear a hat at all times when riding and all the silly ass covering detail.

Although ultimately if you don't like the people, as you'll be spending lots of time with them, don't agree to the share and look elsewhere!!!

I don't understand why her mother wanted the money to be traceable? That's what jumped out at me but agree, if you aren't happy, don't do it.

I don't like the sound of them, to be honest! Also, if she has an injury and shouldn't be riding, it doesn't sound like they are very responsible people anyway! I would find someone else.

If you do decide to go with them, you MUST have a contract!!
