Please send good vibes for Google, our little 4 year old boy, he is in agony and has had morphine injection today to try and control the pain of a suspected "Hernie discale" not sure in English what this called. Depending on what they find he may have an operation to fix his back. We are all very upset and nervous about this but something has to be done fast, he hardly dares move.
 
They did the scan and immediately operated, it was a herniated disc right up his back, level of the neck. They say he came through it well and is in the waking up area now. So pleased with him. Thanks for all your good vibes they seem to have done the trick!!!
 
Thanks for asking, he is better but still a lot of pain, they operated from the throat and going up that way. The real problem will be keeping him quiet once he feels better, no jumping on beds, sofas etc and he likes to be where you are. Not so bad the day when we are all awake but big prob at night, will have to sleep on the floor myself!
 
My friend's Tibetan terrier also had this a few weeks ago. It's very scary. They weren't able to operate as the disc is jelly, not sure what your dog had done. However, the terrier is recovering and is already trying to run up stairs. I met a beagle and his owners in the woods today and he had the same thing in February. He's almost 100% better, some wobbling as he walks, nothing serious.

My boy had the ventral slot op in January after blowing the disc at c5/c6. We had 6months of box rest before he was even allowed to look at stairs or get on the sofa. Only after very gradual reintroduction of exercise was he allowed controlled stairs It's a long road but tough love and a comfy sofa are a must.
 
As part of his rehab he was on gabapentin. For nerve pain. As even after the op he had slight nerve compression as it all settled down. This worked better for him than the anti inflammatories
