Heard back from the Stud today that my mare Cat has scanned in foal to Grafenstolz. After reading 'all about him' on this forum, am a little nervous of saying so!!!!

She scanned positive on Monday & they scanned again today just to double check for twins - but all perfect & apparently showing good healthy growth! Phew!! She's staying there till 30 day scan done as abit naughty to travel home & don't want to lose it now.

Been a really tricky time trying to get her in foal - it's my first time and turns out she has a very small window of oppurtunity for insemination so very happy that all is going along fine now. Was originally using Upton's Deli Circus, which didn't take the first time & then Cat was scanned and showed herself to be ready on Bank Holiday Sunday - not the best day for TNT to transport semen or any chance of getting it there in time (we're in Hertfordshire, Circus is in Cheshire!!!) so a quick change of Stallion at 8.30am on a sunday morning & all inseminated by 11.15am! Don't want to say anything that might cause Graf reaction - but I have to say I'm very grateful to everyone for helping me out so much! And now my lovely Cat is pregnant! And very excited to see what I get (apart from a bay filly!)

Our Graf baby is a colt ! Now a month old and we are very pleased with him. Bay with a white star and snip. Dare i say though he has white hairs appearing around his eyes his mummy is grey ! However Graf has never had a grey foal . We will wait and see. Good luck with your mare.

This is the Legend that is Cat - hopefully as a slightly heavier type (1/2 shire), we should get a nice type out of her! Glad to hear you got a colt - was prewarned a bay filly with no white would be what I got! She's got quite a bit of white & 'granny' is a proper shire horse with massive white legs and blaze so will be very interesting to see!

All new to me, this game & it's a rollercoaster ride! Thanks everyone! x

She is GORGEOUS!!! Where were you a few weeks back when a few people were openly criticising Draught crosses (Shire/Clyde x TB)! I would LOVE to find a smart Shire x TB mare! Congrats on your pregnancy for next year - looking forward to pics! It should be a smart foal!

Awwww, thank you! She is gorgeous! I miss her terribly being away at stud!

I love her being 1/2 shire, 1/2 TB - brilliant attitude, amazingly sound - had her since she was 5, now 15 & never been lame a day, evented to Novice level, dressaged to Ad.Med, wicked SJ & had a lovely foal when she was 4 years old who now Sj's.

Now I just have to take extra special care of her and her new cargo!

I had a Shire X TB gelding, I was given him, due to supposed Navicular - which he didn't have! He did have a myriad of other problems though and I had him PTS at 15. He was SO cool!! I've had a lot to do with the cross, as we a few at college when I was a student and I also have friends who have them. I'd have another in heart beat! I am genuinely really looking forward to pics of your foal - you'd better post them lol!!

Will do!! I shall no doubt bore everyone senseless with foal pictures, so will make sure they go on here too!

Not quite what I was going for as 'my first foal' but am breeding a horse for myself, rather than money (not sure that's actually possible anyway!!) so very happy to 'settle' for Graf as the new Daddy! Cat obviously likes a bit of Posh! And I shall (hopefully) look very flashy on my new steed in 4 years time! :)

How funny, I've just found this after posting photos of my 3wk old Graf foal which is......a dark bay filly with no white! I love Cat btw.:)

good luck on the pregnancey! your choice of stallions are/were poles apart in breeding tho not in ability! hopefully your mares half shire will put some sensibility into the grafenstolz bloodlines! and you should get a nice weight of foal you could have got a seriously chunky one with a deli circus foal! keep us informed and expect photos next may!!! hope it all goes well!!

To be fair - the stallions choice are somewhat different! I have known Circus for a long time & was really aiming for a nice coloured JRN/1* chunky wonder cob as my first go!!

So now we're going for super-flashy pants filly instead! But I (tragically) am a big believer in fate & what is meant to be, will be and all that! I'm very happy she's in foal, all is going well & the new Daddy is a pretty good alternative. I do like a jolly pony (and have a slight electric bottom) so think this new version will still be up my street!

Graf has a great Facebook page and watch with interest to all the foalie photos that come on there....they are ALL gorgeous! :)

i was wondering if you still belive this to be true as i have a rising 4yr old by graf who is grey :) he is a cracking little horse spirited would be an understatment! Thanks Leanne

Congratulations, the only doubt I personally have about Graf is I'd expect to have seen more of his young stock out competing by now as his reputation is that he can be sharp. He is a stunning looking horse though, I just would like to see how his off spring perform.

We backed our Graf three year old this Summer (I was Cilla all got lost when forum changed !) He is grey now dark and dappled his face quite white. He will be out all being well eventing next year. He is very well balanced not sharp but clever learns very quickly and soon gets bored and will then look for naughty things to do for example taking of all the pipe lagging in his stable, switching stable light on and off all night so we had to have the electricity re routed ! He is on facebook as a foal but look so different now. Look forward to seeing your Graf foal.

Yeah he is very dark grey and has a star. Around his eyes and nose it's starting to get light and the middle section of is tail is grey. At the moment he is at least 16hh hoping he will make the 16.2hh mark. Yeah of course just can't figure out how to post a pic of him on here :)

I too would like news of how his youngsters are doing. I've always liked the horse, immensely.

As a footnote, has anyone noticed that this thread was started three and a half years ago?!!

Alec.

Hi Alec that is what confused me. Leanne are you on face book easier to get photos on. I cannot seem to get photos on here either ! Fons is 16h hoping will grow a bit more what did you name your boy.

I haven't as my account got hacked I can always email you if you like? He is called gruffalo. He is very sweet so far he has taken everything in his stride. It was shear luck that I bought him really he is my little bargain! Well like I said I hope he will make 16.2hh but no big deal if he doesn't, he has got very bum high again now so hopefully will have another good growth spurt.

Gruffalo is on Grafs face book page he is with his mum so you did not breed him ? Fons is bum high as well what are your competiton plans ?

No I didn't, I bought him off his breeder as I knew her. She just wanted a nice home for him and there was something about him that I just fell in love with and luckily she offered him to me at a price I couldn't refuse. Well I've never evented myself have always done show jumping. So I guess I will just see how he goes and hopefully he will have the scope to do some decent jumping. So you plan to event Fons next year?

My daughter will event Fons we are hoping he will have a good jump as should Gruffalo. Fons moves nicely which is good for dressage but then Grafs father was Polarion ! Would love to keep in touch we are in the Midlands where are you ?

well hopefully with his breeding gruff should be really scopy as the mare had buckets of it! i love the idea of eventing but its the dressage which puts me off, never have been able to get in to it.
yeah that would be great, i live pretty much in the middle of oxford.

Not so far away then will try and get some photos and will send my e mail on a pm for you to keep in touch would be great to see the progress in our Graf babies.
