as above - my horse out on loan has hurt herself and after a week of box rest the vet wants to scan/x ray- has anyone had this done - how much does it normally cost with the vet coming to you? Also if you claim on your insurance (have 170 excess) does it affect your policy next year? Vibes for horsey too please!!!!

It depends on the Vet. Mine was scanned by my vet and it was £40 a go, she was then referred to a clinic and they charged £125.

One of my horses had to have both stifles xrayed about 4 years ago, he went to the clinic to have it done. The bill came to a very "ouch" £600. So maybe cheaper if they come to you, however i cant imagine it will be easy for them to bring out all the equipment and they wont be able to process the xrays there and then i imagine.

My vets are on the expensive side but ultra reliable and have good quality portable equipment and would come to me

I would expect in the region of
£25 call out
£100 scan
£100 xray machine + £10 a picture (? 6)
Possibly sedative if needed at £25 ish

I would expect a total bill in the region of £300 + VAT, BUT my vets are on top end of scale, if you can box yours there would be cheaper

£70 for first plate, £54 for following/further plates. Still got the bill in front of me from Henry's visit last month! Call out is £36 (~10 miles radius), plus consultation of £30. That was portable X-ray machine. Pretty good images (I've got digital copies), but remember to ask them to use a wooden block under the leg and a flat surface!!! Mine didn't and it cuts off the bottom of the hoof and the pastern angle isn't as accurate as it should be!

My scan was £64.63 (inc vat)...total bill for first exam £122.40. Am only at beginning of treatment, but paying for this as my excess is greater. Hoping to get off lightly, and if it goes again it may be worse and require more radical treatment which will be expensive so will claim then.
