SCAR AFTER SARCOID TREATMENT

I have treated my pony with blood rot ointment for a sarcoid on the top of her right leg. The treatment was aggresive and appears to have been a success, however the very large scab is now almost off but the flesh underneath is very proud like a lump. Any ideas on how to reduce the proud flesh please.
 
My horse had the most horrific scab that looked like wood bark coming out of his leg when he had the liverpool cream. It took about 5-6 weeks to fall off, became infected, and has left a rather messy scar on his leg.

I have used potassium pamanagmate on proud flesh before with success but this was for a leg that got kicked and started growing back lumpy but Im not sure it would be the best thing for a sarcoid scar.
 
Maybe if you speak with your vet they can give you a cream containing chemicals(think it's called Lotagen Gel) which may help reduce the scar tissue.
 
I dont think there is any sarcoid left as it was several of the nodular type and left a raw patch after treatment then the scab came and it is hard/fleshy now and was bleeding a bit tonight on the edge perhaps it went deep and is still healing on the inside hard to tell i will probably have the vet look at it .
 
Once again, I would urge everyone to be ultra cautious about what they put on a true sarcoid, or even on a questionable site after a true sarcoid has been treated. True sarcoids are skin cancers and (crudely) cancers are where the normal cells "forget" when to grow and when to stop growing. The absolute last thing you want to put on a cancer is anything that says "encourages new skin growth". It would encourage the cancer cell's growth too. Definite no-nos are anything with tea tree oils and/or aloe vera in,and Camrosa. A helpful question to ask yourself is, if you had (or had recently been cleared of) skin cancer, what would you be happy slapping on yourself.
 
I keep telling everoyne I meet, i got rid of them completely including the scabbing with NAF fly gel the one with garlic and australian tea tree oil

That was 2 years ago, and the vet confirmed they were sarcoids

The difference is its not agressive like marmite or the herbal remedies can be. We initially did it just to keep flies off...
 
The only way to be 100% certain that something that looks like a sarcoid actually is a sarcoid is through a biopsy. Many things that look like sarcoids aren't. My vets say that if it looks like a sarcoid, treat it as if it is but other vets hold the opposite view. I'd recommend everyone to download Prof Knottenbelt's definitive information on sarcoids. He is a world expert on sarcoids, amongst other things and his advice is clear. Anything that promotes skin growth should be avoided.

Very true - only problem is if it IS biopsied and IS a sarcoid you have to be ready to hit it hard - as any disturbance will make it grow like stink!!

This one was biopsied - with Liverpool Cream on standby! It grew this size in a couple of weeks from what started as a small cut that went proud.

This is it 3 weeks after Liverpool Cream treatment - when sarcoid dropped off leaving quite a crater.

And this was it a week ago - it's looking even better now! I struggle to find it without my glasses on!

In my experience, if you leave a sarcoid untreated when they're are flies about, chances are very high you'll get another one (or two, or three!) This chap developed a small one on his chest just after we'd finished treatment on the first - that was dealt with using cryo - it dropped off a week later. Flies are now finished so hopefully there'll be no more.

I don't normally biopsy sarcoids. If I think it's one, I show my very good vet. If he thinks it's one, he sends photos to Knotty, and if Knotty thinks it is, we treat it according to his instructions! Where sarcoids are concerned, Knotty is GOD!
