Scar tissue adhesions between tendon sheath and tendon

Hi

My eventer damaged his tendon sheath last year and all seemed relatively ok but the scar tissue that formed then formed adhesions. These adhesions are now causing lameness. We have tried treating with steroids and this hasn't worked. He has stood 8 weeks of light to medium work following the steroid treatment but has now gone lame. Vet has recommended that he is off until the new year and we then try again. Does anyone have any experience of this before? Anything that I should be doing? Controlled exercise, laser, ultrasound???? Surgery isn't an option - both financially and the horse just won't cope with surgery as he has had a number of previous health problems that mean I won't put him through it. I am willing to try anything if it works!

Had similar injury to my mare about 10 years ago.

We used ultrasound and physio, can't remember if we used laser as well. The physio sounded me how to do a friction massage on the area, to help break it down.

She had a programme of ultrasound, plus work on the horsewalker, before we went onto ridden work.

She came sound and went on to event for a few years. :)
 
My friend had a horse who was lame, they finally diagnosed that with adhesions in the tendon sheath. She had to have an op, followed by shock wave treatment, she was sound afterwards and has been fine for the last 5 odd years.
 
I had long wave ultrasound with my horse off my friend who is a veterinary physio and I can recommend her if you would like to, she covers most of the midlands area.

I have a friend who is an equine physio who is coming over to show me how to massage his leg. I also have access to a pair of Ice Vib boots - what do you reckon to these?

Hmmm not sure these will do enough, compared with something like ultrasound, but the friction massage can make them a bit sore, so you could maybe use it after. Prob better to ask you physio or vet that question..... :)

Before we got it we rang them and explained are situation and Ian was very helpful. First you register. You can hire them but we bought one. It was £325. The good thing is that if you feel it hasn't worked you can send it back and get a full refund. :)
My pony went on an 8 week programme and now I can continue to use it whenever I feel she will benefit from it. Hope this helps :)
