Hi All

My horse has a small tear in his shoulder muscle and because of this scar tissue has formed close to a tendon. I’m not sure when the injury happened but in hindsight he’s probably had it for a while because he hasn’t felt right on that leg and it was only when we noticed a lump appearing on his shoulder did I decide to investigate that area. So my question is if anyone can recommend treatment to reduce scar tissue, particularly when it’s in such a delicate area being so close to a tendon.

He’s currently undergoing a course of cryotherapy treatment, I’ve started him on ArcEquine and I’m massaging the area daily but would love to hear anyone’s experiences or advice.

Thank you
Victoria

Mine wasn't a great outcome I am afraid although it was back in 2013 so they may have better treatment now.

My mare damaged her DDFT in the pastern area quite badly and had a lot of scar tissue which would form, and basically was preventing the healing process so she never came sound after 2 years of trying sadly she was retired at 15.

I hope you get some better experiences from people and I hope the treatment works for your horse fingers crossed for you both.

Well I’m lucky in that he hasn’t damaged his tendon. He’s damaged his shoulder muscle which had a little tear but the scar tissue has developed and it’s close to the tendon so could aggravate it if we don’t reduce it. Muscle tears require 4-6 weeks off so he’s on week 2 of that so we’ll see how it looks in a couple of weeks but anything to speed up the process of the scar tissue breaking down would be great!

Hopefully as it's not actually on the tendon it will be a better outcome I haven't heard of that happening before but it definitely seems a better prognosis.
