Tonight at the field my dog got zapped by the electric fence he then ran off out of the yard and down the road. is there anyway you can you stop a scared dog running off? he wasn't listening or responding to anything I said / did as he was blindly 'trotting' off.
He wont be coming with me again unless he stays in the car or is on a lead

I would not say this is an issue with anything to do with recall.

I have seen perfectly trained gundogs bolt after a fence zap, including one of ours who is generally bombproof-he has never ignored a whistle like he did that time, he ended up back on the wagon under a seat.

it bloody hurts, they dont understand and it frightens them and most likely reaction is to get as far away as possible.

There isnt much you can do :( just dont be too hard on him.

His recall is very good and funny you should mention it but hes a training gun dog as well. my older dog has touched it once years ago and never again i'd have thought he'd have taught max but he doesn't seem to learn.
i wasn't cross with him just worried, as not far from the field theres a dual carraige way :-( and the other way the entire new forest!

I agree with this - we lost our trained gun dog when he got zapped and just ran in a panic. He had a very good recall, not so good nowadays as he is as deaf as a post!

I agree too. Panic is totally different to naughtiness.

Our eldest lab won't come within 200yds of the stable yard at the moment because she got zapped last week. She sits in the field sulking! The 2yr old cocky lab, however, got zapped, and rather than ran away turned round and barked and growled at the fence!
