I am going to Hartpury Colllege on Monday and only aloud home every other weekend :( not good as can't see my horses and i get very home sick :(

I am very excitied about going but i am so nervous about boarding. Is there anyway i can relax and not worry so much about it?

Silly post i know, im even crying now thinking about being away from home  Im so silly lol, i bet i will love it and will love boarding but i think the first week is always the worst as you are meeting new people and getting ust to the daily routine. Now smiling again :)

Thanks X
HC25 :)

I deferred my uni place by a year I was THAT scared of going!
Trust me, its the best thing I ever did was to move away, to a new place to discover with new people become more independant and have bigger laughs!
I've met the best friends I've ever had and now theres like Skype etc, when I am homesick at least I can go on there! :)
Definitely look forwards to it - I know its nerve wracking, but you'll never regret it, I promise!!
The first month will be the hardest and you will miss your horses, but it gets easier to deal with and you'll see them plenty!
I am in Lincoln - its 2 and a half hours away from home, but I find it perfect I LOVE the city, LOVE my house and friends and most importantly the course!
You'll be fine! Chin up and look forwards to it! :)

ETA - not realy much to say about keeping calm as suffer from anxiety so was on meds myself (!) but don't bottle it up - talk to the new people, or even your tutors, everyone WILL be in the same boat no matter how confident they seem :)

Thanks Kelly,

That has really helped alot :) I remember i went on my taster course in February to get an idea of what it would be like and loved it :D but then spoke to mum on phone and burst in to tears  lol as soon as im off phone laughing again with friends lol, what am i like?

Thanks once again, im feeling better now :D x

Big smile, introduce yourself with a big smile, you'll settle in in no time. Trust me! Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE is feeling exactly the same!

Good luck! xxx

Good luck!

I felt exactly the same about leaving for university - feels like it was yesterday and I'm all graduated and (supposedly) grown up now.

One thing I did that helped was have a photo on my phone that my mum took of me riding my horse. I picked one that looked fab, and whenever I was feeling stressed I'd look at it and remind myself that if I could control half a ton of warmblood then I could do anything else I put my mind to. I'm sure you can too :)

I'm not saying it won't be hard :p you probably will cry a lot and miss home, I spent the first month wanting to leave! But threw myself into my work had lots of time with my new mates and they kept my spirits up :) Very grateful to them!
Deff big smile, introduce yourself and if you're homesick, talk to your family, or your friends :) Make a book of photos, get your home friends and fam to write in it and don't look at it until you get there - it helps :)

Very lucky about the olympics :D And some of the shows there are just really fun to go to, especially blue chip when they have the gala evening :)

I'm very close by and I'm always around the college as one of my instructors is just down the road from there.

The only thing I can warn you is in the winter its very cold as its very exposed so lots of warm coats and jumpers :)

Hehe yep, i actually forgot about that until you said :p Cool, i have watched shows there but never competed! :p Awwww, if you ever pop by you should wear a jumper saying " Kokopelli" on it then i can say hi :p lol :D

Thanks, I make sure i will, as i feel the cold alot!! brrrr. I went there in Feb for taster course and got snowed in but luckily parents had 4x4. Mark Todd was also stuck there with other showjumpers :p x
