My horse adores xc but I’m terrified of jumping them as I fear what’ll happen if she hits it! Quite a careful horse out, jumps logs on hacks happily but isn’t the most careful showjumping, knocks quite a few usually hind. If she hits a xc jump with her back legs could this cause damage?
Sorry I’m very new to ownership and I don’t want anything bad to happen to her!
Thank you

Of course it could cause damage. Thats why boots were invented, to lessen the damage if they hit them. If she hits SJ poles she maybe knows they will fall, sometimes they need to learn themselves that they need to be careful. But also, you need to make sure you are setting her up right for the jumps - if you are jumping the front correct but then slamming your arse down half way over youll push hers down. You also need to make sure your tack fits well enough to let her get her hind up and over correct, and be sure that there is no actual physical issue causing her to drag her hind end over a jump, like a hind hock issue or stifle/sclerotic issue.

Your horse can get injured in the field, on the road, jumping etc etc you can't focus on that too much. Just make sure that you've got a decent set of boots on and don't try to pull him up infront of the fence or you'll affect the stride. Horses are generally much more careful overt xc fences as they recognise they are solid.
