I second different trainer and different horse, I learnt as a child on ponies who often knew to take their pace from the instructors voice command. Having inneffective little legs which barely came below the saddle flaps, I must have made little impactt on the creature, however the instructor would set us up to sitting trot to the corner, shout "sit up aaaaand CANTER", looking back I can now see that the ponies cantered on the instruction from their owner
