Not nice for the girl involved obviously, but who needs a guard dog when your horse is this good.

Agree, bless that horse. Probably saved that girl from a horrible fate. Sounds like the sort of thing you would read in a movie script;

The girl quickly remounted and galloped back to her stable yard.

The poor girl - how scary and what a loyal horse! They are brighter than we sometimes give them credit for. I hope she isn't too disturbed by it though I know I would be

That's scary. When I was younger we were warned by police at our yard about a bridle path we used to ride along, where a flasher had been spotted. Nothing happened for while until one day a girl went out riding and something similar happened - a man jumped out at her and her horse kicked him and she got away. Didn't realise the significance of it until now, think I was too young to make much of it then.

What a brilliant horse. But it's so sad that these things happen - I feel like I'm putting my life in danger every time I go out for an early morning run, especially with it getting darker

Absolutely amazing! The man must have had 'cretin' vibes emanating from him for the horse to have a go at him.

He must have really scared the horse, as for all we like to think of horses being really loyal and our friends, in reality they will pretty much look after number one.

Funny how animals so often correctly percieve the level of threat and so great that horse saved it's Mum - bet it will be cosseted for the rest of it's life!

What a lovely story apart from the assault bit, however love the writing up of the story
"the horse reared and then kicked the man with both hind legs" Bet that looked remarkable, i'm sure they teach those spanish horses those tricks, not to mention
"where it knocked him to the ground"
I'm sure it did!!!!!

Or like something out of "The Saddle Club" books......

Call me an old cynic - but this doesn't ring true. The man pulled her from her horse - and was therefore probably holding on to her - and the horse double-barrells him (without hurting her!) and obviously not hurting HIM too badly as he was able to make his escape!

Now IF it happened as told, why did she ride back to the yard? She's on the corner of a road which presumably carried traffic - at 5.15 pm. Why not flag down a motorist and get him/her to ring police so man could be apprehended while still winded by a kick. (Or why not stomp horse all over him while he was lying on the ground?)

And - if I'm wrong and the story IS true - then the horse was (sorry!) probably kicking out at her as she fell rather than aiming at her assailant!
