We currently have a sign on our gate advertising grazing to let.
I was just up at the yard with the farrier and a chap pulls up in a car. Asks me how much, and what he gets for his money, I tell him a tenner a week for field & shelter. That, he's happy with.
He then goes on to explain that he lives down the road and has decided to buy his little girl a pony since they've moved to a rural area and would anyone be doing anything for him as he's no idea how to look after one. I told him that it isn't a livery yard, there's only me and another guy renting the land and stables off the owners of the place and we both look after our own horses.
He asks if there's anywhere else nearby that would help him out - I tell him of the new full livery yard down the road, charging a reasonable (I think) 85 quid a week all inclusive, with access to both indoor and outdoor full size arenas. He replies that he could get a luxury flat for 85 quid a week (his idea of luxury obviously differs slightly from mine).
Conversation closed with him double checking that this arrangement would mean he had to see pony every day. I said yes. He replied that he works "like 24 hours a day" so that wouldn't be possible. He thanked me and left.
Scary...
