Scary lesson tomorrow!

Not sure i want to get my head bitten off so ...
Surely bbmat you'll be more than ok as you already have had a couple of lessons so you and Conrad will know whats what?
You are however a proffesional and i think sometimes your posts are a little self indulgent but when much of ones work can be in a vacuum its a little understandablebut not totally proffesional.
For me this was not a advert BUT you did advertise your stallion to a lady wanting stallions in Glos. I know you have a graded stallion in your charge so better maybe would be to point the person in the dirrection of the SHB [GB] stallion dirrectory and look through the regions. She would then find your stallion without the Advert? Which was a bit naughty.
There is nothing nasty about this post its just a mild obsevation and i would expect a bit more from a person fully occupied in producing horses. It is lovely to hear about people and their horses but i dont think its quite so appropriate from a proffesional. You are obviously better than this.

If you look through all my posts I think you will see that I also point people in the direction of stallions from other studs that I have no interest in, you could argue that if people can not reply to posts that are seeking something, then the posts should not be put up at all...

I dont mind my posts seeming "self indulgent" as I am always very proud at wht my horses have achieved.( And I am under no illusions that I am the next Carl Hester)

Also, yes I have as you say had a few lessons with Conrad before, but always on merlin, who is very advanced for his age and takes pretty good care of me. Conrad is however known to be extremely critical, and riding a 3 y/o that has only been away from home once is a totally different ball game!

I also do not have a problem with people voicing an opinion, but the tome of these replies where not at all nice or tactful.

ALSO I dont really need to be "professional" on here do I as I am not on here to promote my self!!

My signature was made for me by someone else on here (thanks lau) and I do not, unlike some people have a link to my web site on it?

Thanks for the imput though, its nice to have someone ptting their point across politely!

BBmat, just to say i think your horses are stunning, and you have every right to be proud of them. Ignore Shilasdair, i think it may be a case of the green eyed monster lol!
Hope you have fun in your lesson and get some pics if you can! We want a full report

Have a good lesson today. I don't see how people can expect people who's business is horses not to talk about there horses! I do! I don't act professional when I'm on here but if someone mentions my stallion i've joined in and someone asked for pictures the other day (not to use him just to be nosey) so I posted a few, at the end of the day they are my horses and I would have nothing to say if I couldn't speak about them at all. On the other foot, I wouldn't be able to try and be helpful to other people if I couldn't relate to my own horses and experiences. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on here, and put politely as p has is fine but S was down right rude, completely unnecessarily and has such got spoken back to in the same tone.
I felt extremely nervous when I went for a lesson with Tim Stockdale years ago on my horse I had produced from scratch and I was down right terrified everytime I set out on XC training with my normal intructor, not at the XC but at her, she had a vicious tongue if you weren't doing it right. So have fun today and I look forward to reading about it later.

I think you'd be surprised by the number of people who are 'technically' professional on here because they make their main income from horses. I personally find it refreshing and lovely that a professional talks about their horses and achievements with such passion and enthuasiasm(sp).

I suppose now that I'm going to back to freelance teaching as my only income I am a professional, but I'm still going to tell you about every little acheivement me and Herbie have

I agree, I love hearing how people are getting on. I'm quite confused by these criticisms

When I scim read a comment on this thread earlier I was expecting there to have been widespread criticism from all sections of the forum, yet it did seem like rather a personal attack on BBMAT

We have many members on here who derive their main income from horses, and yet no one asks FMM to stop telling us about her lovely show horses, or Henryhorn from keeping us updated on her herd......no one moans when people are gushing in their praise for Papafrita and her artwork, or Tia about the horses she buys and sells for a living, and there are many others who I could also mention.

This whole thing smacks of sour grapes and bullsh*t.....

Maybe if i give a brief background on my self you will understand why I am so happy with my horses all the time...

When I was young my family where horsey, but for one reason or another, aged 7 I was adopted, and into a family that lived in a town and did not even want a goldfish let alone horses around!

When I was 13, after being very unhappy not being around horses, I did the work for rides thing at a riding school, and since then have scrimped and scraped, working for nothing at various yards, including hunting, re-habilitation, problem horse yards, show jumping yards, dealing yard, untill I tried setting up on my own in Oxfordshire as a show jumper.
Unfortunately, lack of funds meant I could not get this off the ground, and I almost gave up as I could not make money, and hospitalised myself with cardiac arrhythmia bought on by working too hard when I had a virus. I had stopped enjoying riding horses that had already been ruined by other people..

My lucky break was when i found Mote Farm Stud, and the owner. She was prepared to give me the rides on a string of beautiful and amazing horses and a yard to run.

It has given me a whole new lease of life, I now enjoy riding again, and have found a new direction in dressage, which I started in June last year.

So forgive me if I rave about the horses I ride, but it isnt to be arrogant or to boast or try to get free advertising, I am just genuinely very happy and grateful when they go so well.

Hearing that I think you are an inspiration. For one I enjoy hearing about everyones horses from happy hackers to GP Dressage and International Show Jumpers and Eventers.
My personal opinion is that the comments were sour grapes and I didn't like the way they were put at all. I'm looking forward to hearing how the lesson goes.

I enjoy reading your posts Mat and find them inspirational, and so do many others who aspire to bigger things. Im sure you will have a fab lesson.

Have to say, SMR2007 posts made me wet myself. I have a sore throat through caughing my lunch up

I too find bbmat inspirational.. Bbmat: You only started in Dressage last year?

Wow. I do hope you have a fabulous lesson, and BY THE WAY EVERYONE, bbmat was an excellent help when my mum was selling her horse Benji and I would recommend him to anyone wanting schooling/breaking/sales livery. Brilliant

Hope you enjoy your day Matt.
I love Conrad, and although havent had the opportunity to have training with him personally my dressage trainer does.

Znoopy is a dude

I enjoy reading about Matts achievements as much as I enjoy hearing how Pidge and Patches have started jumping. Its what makes HHO interesting the wide variety of abilities and horses that people talk about.

Hope you have a good lesson but I really don't understand how you could go from SJ to dressage

Hi Mat, I'm going to Aderro tomorrow, only to watch though, can't wait now you're going, it will be lovely to see you and your boy.

And Mat, you carry on enjoying what you do and speaking about it, I for one think it's refreshing to hear how pleased people are with their horses, whether pro or not, don't let folk rain on your parade, too bloody uptight some of them!

It is interesting to hear Matt's history- puts things into perspective and is interesting reading.

NB To the cynics among us- not long after Matt joined and I cottoned onto the idea that he was an experienced/capable dressage rider I PM'd him to ask for advice about a schooling matter- he has since then offered tremendous support and never once lost patience when I've asked further questions. There are numerous other professionals on here whom I've asked the occasional question and all have been truly lovely and always helpful. Not one has ignored a PM or demanded money for services!
To me it makes no matter whether they are pro or not- we are almost all here to be part of the forum for genuine or sincere reasons, not for malice, 'big upping' or trumpet blowing!

Well I didn't know anything about Matt, I saw him at the young dressage horse comp .and complimented him on his horse and riding.I then recognised him on here and I am pleased to follow his post.I have recommended him to my horse's breeder to ride her stallion. He doesn't need the help of advertising on here.
GOOD LUCK IN YOUR LIFE

Hells bells calm down!!! I certainly do not see that post as blatant advertising and ask yourself is this really affecting your life??????
Have a fab lesson Matt and let us know how its goes.

Merlin learnt a lot in todays lesson, and Conrad didnt shout at us so that was good!

I also met TOG, who was lovely, and so where her friends.

I will look forward to them coming to my BBQ in June! (date still not decided)
