So what are yours scared of..??

My oldest and wisest doesn't like his own shadow, which is problematic in the summer!!
My youngest and dopiest has a dog and sheep phobia!! And when she walks past a corner in our yard if someone has moved tools round she'll notice and start snorting like a fire breathing dragon, although the day before everything was fine.

Hopefully its not just me that owns beasties with strange phobias

Oddly enough, going down slopes????? I could quite happily be cantering round a XC course and not the fences but a pathway with a slope and maybe a different surface is what makes us stop in our tracks.
Although i'm currently riding whilst on Box rest as part of tendon re-hab so anything that is able to make noise or move is a great reason to freak out apparently!!

people bending over - e.g. dogs or prams - seems that people are only people if they are standing up - bent over people are monsters

My boy is scared of everything!

His shadow, black and white fillers, monsters in hedges, white writing and lines on the road, roadwork stuff e.g. cones, jump wings (if he isn't jumping them), trotting poles, plastic bags, lorries if the ramp is down, dressage boards (on bad days), judges sitting at tables, puddles, water jumps etc etc etc

Sometimes I wonder how he makes it through the day!

he's not scared of anything really, but is rather fascinated with manhole covers. He tends not to notice them until just before he steps on them, and then suddenly stares at them in a slightly mad way.

light coloured stirks, the only time our completely bombproof horses totally lost it was when a group of these decided to race them on the other side of a hedge. Little Lyric stood aghast with her jaw dropped wanting to know what the fuss was about whilst the 2 16.2+ horses bolted back the way they had come. She was far too interested in the TB foals in the field on the other side of the lane to be scared of some cows!

My horse is scared of shadows in the school, makes sunny days and riding with the floodlights on a real nightmare as we spend most of the time running backwards! He used to be scared of piles of rubbish but we seem to have got over that. He doesn't like the alpacas much either.
My pony doesn't like dogs running towards her (but she's been attacked so I guess that kind of justifies it), she's pretty good with most other things apart from sheep

they are terrifying when they move

I find that my boy eyeballs things but doesn't really react. He is more scared of the things that could actually hurt him, i.e tractors and big lorries.

Now go and watch him spook at the next bit of paper we pass...

Current horse is scared of things that have changed - i.e. if I take my coat off, suddenly the coat is scary. If the ground looks different i.e. light shining on it, he's scared. He's not scared of moving tractors of lorries, but is petrified of stationery farm machinery e.g. harrows, tractors, spades.

My old horse was terrified of sheep (which was probably my fault, long story). This fear was rather tested when out hacking once and someone had left the sheep field gate open and the sheep had escaped and the farmer was shouting at me like it was my fault (which it wasn't), then demanded my help in rounding the sheep up. Each time we got close to them my mare had a panic attack and started rearing (her usual response to things). Thankfully she frightened the sheep back to the farmer but don't think it was quite what he meant

young boy is scared of the hose when filling his trough in his stable up and also goes nuts when daughter decides to try and make sparks with two pieces of flint stones grrrr!

A few years ago I was schooling a young mare who thought there were scary monsters hidden behind one specific white rock outside a cottage on one of our hack routes.
She also had a thing about black and white cows. But she shot heself in the foot one day when she 'forgot' to be scared when walking past a field full of them, remembering just how scary they were on the way back. She got a monumental telling off and has been fine with them ever since!
She still doesnt like that rock tho!

Noises rather than things she can see, although the poo picking kit in the corners of the school can be good sport if she's in the mood, and when someone left a portable CD player in the gallery it was the end of the world, but only on one rein?!

A cob that I had was totally freaked out by crossbred dogs - labradors etc were fine, but anything funny looking and we'd be history!
