Went out for a hack today just left the yard and onto the lane when a women was at her gate said to me that her dog had run off and he didn`t like horses l thought ohh SH@t but carried on a bit to be faced with her dog a big BL@@DY Rottie the dog comes running over starts barking around Doms legs nipping at his ankles. I couldn`t believe my brave boy he stood there like a rock will this dog was running about him the owner was shouting for the dog to come away but it just ignored it lasted about 5 mins and l was really sh@tting myself eventually it got bored cause we weren`t moving gave up and went to it`s owner. She said oww what a good pony you have and l said just as well or your dog would probably have got a kick in th teeth love.
I was so proud of my little man as he is only 6 and he never batted an eyelid and he camly walked off.

If big dogs like that aren't controllabe they should be muzzled or kept on leads (or both). It's so scary when a massive Rottie comes after you - we were walking our terrier a few weeks ago and a Rottie (it was the size of a cow!) was following us, barking at us. There was no owner in sight and we ended up having to scramble through a hedge, get over ditch and climb over some sheep netting to get away from it!

Your horse sounds like he was a star though - glad you're both ok!

WOW! That's impressive, our 6 year old NF does not like dogs too much, as he is not quite sure what they are.

What he does know is that big barky dogs are SCARY. If a rottie came at us, he would go from a standstill to a flat out gallop by the time the dog got to 'Woo...."

I must admit l had to bit my tongue and not be rude also l think l felt as if l could of thrown up l was that scared l just wanted to get out the way lol.

My lad is scared daft of dogs, he would never cope with a dog that size!! Your horse was very good and you did well to keep your cool, I would be screaming lots of expleanaties at the woman as I was carted off home at the gallop!

What a fantastic horse you have........great to have in a crisis like that!

I was once chased by a dog on a horse, (not Frank) and I was crapping myself, this dog was jumping up trying to bite his face and his legs and he just caried on walking down the hill

Me and Kelly_Fi often hack to the local woods where there this a path for both walkers and riders. Once we were near the main entrance and my horse was chased by a boxer - I tried walking away and it keep running after us. Its owner just stood and watched and when I asked for him to call the dog away, he huffed and glared at us before relucantly calling him away
