Hi, has anyone had experience with Scharf Freedom girth’s. Am looking for something that won’t interfere with elbow action as getting rubs. Saddle fitter suggested this new style girth. Worried it only has rather thin straps actually holding the saddle on.

That put me off too! It looks quite flimsy. I would trust it when new, but not when old. They do have a trial service, buy it and if you like, you can return it minus a trial fee.

The blurb says the 'event' is stronger than the 'dressage' - both are short girths. Still has the one strap thing going on.

I've heard the similar but different Stubben one doesn't hold the saddle in place and the saddle slips. As the Scharf one has such a thin strap I'm not convinced it would hold the saddle in place securely.

I ride in both the Dressage girth and the Eventing girth from Scharf. I can tell you that the saddle certainly does not slip at all. My horse is way more comfortable as he can breathe freely. My dressage marks have improved and so far jumping, I have not had a pole down with lazy back legs. I did some research and the polymer runs through the entirety of the girth is similar to kevlar so extremely strong. My horse is over 18 hands, I feel very comfortable and secure and my saddler tells me the girth rather than pulling the saddle respects where she put it. So thumbs up from me.

My mare has managed to move her saddle with ever girth I’ve tried so far.. She makes such a shape over a fence that once we jump over 1m she’s able to move her saddle forward. Her saddle has been made for her and definitely fits. I like the look of the scharf jump girth but I cannot Justify risking that sort of money and have it fail... currently I ride with just a gel sheet, no numnah, and a mark Todd stud girth and that seems to keep it in place.

I have heard that a lot but so often there is a saddle out there that will stay back. Yes a saddle can fit "in the cross ties" but move forwards, and once they're in the wrong place then they can't fit by definition as they're not designed to sit there, and will damage the shoulder. Tricky one of course, it's finding the particular model that will stay back on YOUR horse.
