Hi all,

First time poster, long time lurker...!

I have decided to give my mare a bridle upgrade and have decided on the Schockemohle cavesson:

https://www.classicdressage.com/8386/products/schockemohle-slimford-snaffle-bridle.aspx

My question is- how do the sizes compare to other bridles? She is currently in a cob sized Collegiate with a full sized browband.

Also, if you have any horror stories about them then let me know- I had my heart set on a PS of Sweden bridle but apparently the leather quality is very variable.

Thanks!

I've got a full size on my 16.2hh warm blood. The leather is nice and soft but a bit on the thin side. I use it pretty much every day though and its held up really well without much love and care on my part to be honest! I got mine in a sale but I wouldn't want to pay full whack for one.

I’ve got one on my 15hh Welsh d x cob. Cob size fits nicely apart from the noseband which he needs a full size for, his head is quite chunky. As above they’re quite thin, but soft and last well, I like them and rate them.

Thank you all- it sounds like I should try and get my hands on one and give it a feel before I invest...

I like the idea of it being thin and light as my main aim for buying this bridle is to make her as comfortable as I can (and I can’t afford a Fairfax performance!) but I like to feel the quality of a product when I fork out a bit more for it!

I bought Mr B a schockenmhle double bridle, it was half price from Old Mill and a very good deal. The quality is OK and I am very pleased with it. He is normally in a full size and it fits him fine, I would say it's fairly generous as I sometimes need to have an extra full browband but this one fitted him. Have a look at Old Mill as they still have some bargains.
Just noticed you wanted the slimford whh isn't reduced!

I have the Stanford version for my 16hh ID mare. It is quite light and the leather is not the thickest, but it’s held up well to almost daily use over the year I’ve had it. The headpiece is super soft and comfy looking. My mare is in a full size but really needed an extra full noseband- I have had to extend it as it was a bit too snug around the nose. Wish the cavesson version had been available as I don’t use the flash anyway!

Both my mare and I hate flash bands and it’s so difficult to find a bridle now without one which was why I was drawn to the schokemoehle. Very interesting that everyone has the same feedback about the leather thickness... will definitely have to get my hands on one before buying :)
