Hi, just a quick one.
Does anyone know the rough cost of decent school mirrors?
just for the short sides to begin with.

Are there any alternatives we could use instead of specialist equine mirrors?

Thanks

Hi there My friend makes arena mirrors...www.arenamirrors.co.uk. It may seem expensive to get correctly made mirrors at first, but there are safety issues associated with how the mirror material is framed. Also the cheaper perspex materials warp and fade, and brushed metal is not good at all! You can always buy a couple of mirrors at first, and then add to them as your budget grows. PM me if you need any more info.

As a yard of 9 liveries, we decided to club together & buy some between us after seeing them advertised at £100 for each mirror.

We did some research & got a few quotes. However, although the mirrors themselves are £100 each (8'x4') once they are framed & backed, they are £270 each. Then you need to add on the cost of the wooden posts (approx £90 each) and get them concreted in. Each mirror needs 2 posts (although supplier recommends 3!!)

To do a short side of a 20x40 arena, you need 8 mirrors.

This makes a total cost of approx £3000 & that's with us doing the posts, concrete & fixing mirrors to posts ourselves.

Sadly that is prohibitive for us, so we're planning on just doing 3 mirrors over the centre line at A, which will cost approx £1200.

I was shocked when we started making enquiries, but the wood is v expensive & the posts need to be 6"x6" & 3.3m long.

I hope that helps.
