Does anybody have any walk/trot exercises that can be done on the roads?

The roads I ride on are quiet, and not overloaded with traffic. Sugar is a sensible but forward going horse, and can be a bit lively.

Any suggestions?

I like to do shoulder in and leg yield on hacks, esp if horse is a bit spooky and gets silly as really makes them concentrate. You can also work on shortening and lengthening strides, get your transitions perfected by doing lots of walk/trot, trot/walk/halt transistions etc..

Can you tell I had to do all my schooling on hacks until a short while ago?

As madhector said. I tend to do transitions by picking a tree to ride to and then being really accurate about it like you would with a marker in the school
