Schooling exercises to encourage a particular hind leg?

What do you want to encourage it to do exactly? Is it weak or stiff? Is it slow? Does it step to the inside of a circle or does it swing to the outside too much?

Hillwork is always best. Polework good too, for both hind legs!

Other than that, I agree with Wheels, we would need to know what you are encouraging it to do? Take more weight? Flex more? Be straight?

Shoulder in, always - but do both legs, not just the weaker one. And piaffe (not joking, but you do need to know how to do it).

I would add on this too and suggest transitions within the shoulder in. Especially trot-walk-trot really gets them pushing off the hind leg.
I use this exercise worked off the bridle from the ground, I work on both reins equally but it definitely helps mine to strengthen the hind end by 'sitting' more with the hind leg under and creating more 'push' from the hind (Im not explaining it very well) and also the start of asking them to collect from the ground but again both of the above dependant on the level of training and physical development stage the horse is at

ETA - obviously I would have confirmed the horse is sound first and there is not a physical reason why they are pushing off the hind legs differently ?? I'm assuming you are talking about a well established sound horse that has a weaker side in laterals ?

I have made her wonky through leading off her too much! She tries to help so is always bent slightly towards the led horse and...wonky is the result! Did that to Coblet last year and spent all winter fixing it. But no school now and she builds muscle more slowly! Led horse is now back in ridden work so I can fix things!!!

Thank you for the ideas! Even just encouraging her to be straighter in the last week has helped.

Basic straightness then. SI is your friend.
I also have my favourite exercise of all time, seems to help most things, and that is to switch from SI to Renvers to SI

shoulder in, leg yield in and out on circle.
also i read somewhere (but never tried it) wearing a sausage or overreach boot on the hind leg you want to work makes them more aware of that leg.

My lad has one hind weaker than the other from racing and being worked right handed everyday in training. My physio recommended lots of hill work and if poss the weaker leg towards the hill eg walk up hill diagonally instead of straight line . I also do tonnes of walk hacking up and down hills 4/5 days a week. And lots and lots of walk/ trot transitions on the other 2 days I either lunge or go in school just to help engage both hinds.
