I part loan a welsh section c gelding who i do alot of showing with, he is stabled and is on a lovely yard but they have no school and hacking is on roads not much off road hacking, although the yard does have a little paddock to ride in but due to so much rain its boggy. I have not ridden properly for about a 5 weeks now! And in that time ive ridden him about 3 times just up the road and back as weather has been horrible he is losing his muscle/topline and im running out on what to do with him now!?
Just to let you know we dont have transport a friend takes us to shows if enough people go as its a 6 horse lorry..

HELP

Even if it's on the road you can still school. You can ask for walk and trott in a nice outline, picking out tree's or signposts to change transitions. You can do a bit of leg yeilding when the roads clear, obv. not right over to the other side! Depending on what type of road your on, you could have a little calm collected canter on the grass verge. Its really about taking what you do in the school out on a hack.
