schooling - how much per hour?

Im wanting someone to school my mare 3/4 times a week - we have hit a wall as my abilities stop at teaching her to canter properly - so instead of muddling through i want it done properly

Ideally id like someone to ride her 3/4 times a week (and lunged or hacked the other 2 days).... so how much per hour for a GOOD rider...??

Im in Cheshire if anyone can reccomend someone to me..... someone with proven results not someone who'd just like to have a go :) (yes ive had them already :D )

I would pay my instructor £20 for forty-five minutes to school mine. It might be a tad more now as that was agreed a while ago.

Probably a daft question, but can you nto have lessons with an instructor who will get on if/when you need them to?

I can have lessons but my (knowledgeable) friends have been helping me but physically im garbage in canter....my 2 other friends can canter her (i have too but i want it done properly as shes just getting p*ssed off at me doing it wrong and nanging etc lol)

I know lessons will help but schooling her first then carrying on with lessons is what i see best for her... as shes the one i want for life so she has to be spot on :)

My RI helped me school my horse when he first arrived - she rode him once a week for a month to help deal with a few naughty baby moments (as her legs are much longer than mine lol). She charged the same as her lesson rate of £25 and rode him for 45 mins.

We are now having lessons weekly and he's improving so much.

Might be worth having a lesson on another horse or a schoolmaster to help you - then you can get the right feeling on her again?

yeah i honestly think it wouldnt hurt me to ride a RS schoolmaster or a friends well behaved horse and then bring that to my own horse.

Dont get me wrong - im not incompetant - shes my third horse - ive had an ex-racer and a psycho horse before her and the problem with them was brakes... they were 8 and 12...

but just dont want to mess her up :)
 
Ah, see your point.

I went through a stage of not being able/wanting to canter the Dizz (fine on any other horse). I got D1 to do it for me :). Just the canter work, I did everything else. Then I just started doing little bits of canter work, slowly building it up; now I can do my own canter work on her :D. When she's finished her little holiday, I'll have the lessons again - my instructor will get on if she needs to make a point, etc.

I had help from a pro rider following an injury which meant I couldn't school very well. I was paying £25 for 45 mins which was quite a lot but the rider was great and made a big difference so I felt it was worth it .

Mrs C, I had thought of a sharer but i dont think i could deal with not being there when person rides my horse :o

else yes definately as i would be more than happy for someone to take her showing and beyond if they are more confident than me!.....

But im not sure i could not go down.... id be happy to do jobs while person rides and not watch all the time but....... :o
 
My instructor teaches for £15 for 45mins and I think charges £20 per hour to school a horse but i'm not entirely sure. I've never paid her to school mine but when she's got on during a lesson he's gone brilliantly and at her own yard she has owners bring their horses over to hers schooling and also takes on horses for schooling who also livery with her. She is actually based cheshire but cannot ride for the foreseeable future due to a back injury.
 
Just to say, it totally depends on the quality of the schooling session rather than the time, an intensive 30min session can be just as worthwhile as an 1hr session, depending on what you want to achieve :)

yeh i said anhour as i assume thats what instructors normally go for but tbh my mare wont manage an hour intensive! so even if i pay for an hour i would want some pointers/ a chat about her progress etc :)
