I have backed my dartmoor and we're hacking out and doing a bit of schooling, not done any canter work yet as waiting to do that on a hack out following other horse first. I find schooling very boring I'm more a happy hacker! Today we did walk and trot circles, serpentines, transitions etc but want some fresh ideas. He's done pole work on the lunge but not ridden so looking to introduce that.

Any ideas to make it interesting for him and me?

School to music!

It makes it much more fun and you can also use it to improve rhythm and over time use it for collection, cadence and elevation!

Video your next schooling session. Work out your ponies BPM,look on the internet for songs with a matching BPM and start from there.

My horse is very musical and recognises canter tunes......very handy for introducing canter in ridden work! I have produced a track that goes from trot to canter, and another that goes from walk to canter and I use this music to help me(and horse) to work on transitions, transitions, transitions.

Its fantastic fun!

Interesting I did notice a cd player in the school today bizzarely and it crossed my mind lol perhaps I'll have to come up with a tune! Thanks

Thanks we've done a lot of bombproofing over the years had him since a 6 month old foal and he's now nearly 7 so had many years of it! Might do some cone circuits or something though use them like bending poles!
