Schooling Livery

Hi,

I was thinking of sending my mare away for about three weeks on schooling livery to do some show jump training as we have both had a bit of a confidence knock recently and I was thinking that if a more confident rider worked with her for a bit then it might help.. Dose any one have any experience/advice?

Find someone that will also teach you with the horse and towards the end of the horses stay have lessons there and then continue them at home.

I've sent my horses away for schooling on a regular basis, either because I've hit a problem for some reason but more usually because I am away or unable to ride. I have always sent them to someone I've been training with so they know the horse and also know me and my riding. The main purpose is always to make the horse easier for me to ride rather than to teach the horse something new but from what you've written I think it could work well if you have the right rider. They usually go for at least a week and I normally have a lesson on the horse before it comes home. I'd be very hesitant about sending my horse away to someone I didn't know even if they had a good reputation.

Highly recommend it - sent my horse away for a few weeks due to other commitments/for confidence and it did us both the world of good, I then had a few lessons afterwards with the rider who had schooled her. Personally didn't know the peiple beforehand but I just made sure I did my research and didn't try and go cheap.

Thank you all very much, I think i've decided that I'm going to send her away. I've found someone local who is willing to take her on so hopefully it will go well.
