hello everyone god i haven't been on here for a while its changed so much! ok well i haven't ridden for a few months, but I have recently been given a ride at a local womans stables. he needs to get fit, hes not too unfit but he hasn't been ridden in 3 weeks. i have access to an outdoor school, and ill probably do a lot of schooling because i haven't found a hacking friend yet - the trouble is when i get in the school i never have any idea what to do!! can anyone recommend a link to a decent website with well laid out schooling plans? PLEASE SEND ME A LINK! thanks guys xxxxx

Hi, I would think you will find some good ideas in magazines like 'Your Horse' , 'Horse & Rider', 'Horse'. You could also look up some BHS books designed for candidates for Instructors as they will describe lesson plans there.
Other thing - get hold of British Dressage Prelim, Novice (or whatever is your level) etc tests and ride elements of those tests (from the easiest one i.e. the lowest number to the more demanding ones) as they are designed to be progressive and exercises included in them will hopefully give you an idea on how to work your horse.

Good books: http://www.amazon.com/101-Dressage-Exercises-Horse-Rider/dp/1580175953

Your best bet though would be to have a few lessons with a good instructor who will explain the ideas of warm up, work and cool down and who could suggest specific exercises for your particular horse.

Good luck
