...for a horse who thinks he knows it all (he does know a bit, but not everything) and likes to go quickly.

Basically I was wondering if any of you have some schooling exercises/suggestions for a horse who is clever, quick to learn, but gets bored easily. He prefers to canter than anyting else, his walk needs the most work, but he needs to come back to me quicker in trot and mainly I am looking to get him to collect, come more underneath me and listen.

Done some lateral work and some extending in walk and trot when he was going better. I can get him to come round easily, but getting him to relax into his outline without him getting lazy/switch off can be hard.

I realise quite a lot of what I have said seems to contradict itself, but I swear I am only talking about 1 horse! It's been one extreme or the other lately and I'm having to work very hard!

Any help appreciated

This is easy - you invest a little money in lessons with an experienced/BHS qualified instructor with competitive experience to back it all up and you will get results. My BHSI dressage instructor has taught me a schooling exercise for almost every problem known to man and beast and that is after I trained and passed my BHSAI and owned horses for 30 years. Spend a little money and you will get there!
