Hi, I am considering sending my youngster for schooling whilst we go on honeymoon next summer. Can anyone recommend a good place in south east area ideally berks, bucks, oxford area?

In your area you are really spoilt for choice. If I were you I would send the horse to my regular trainer, someone who knows both you and the horse, someone who you are happy to see riding your horse.

I don't know of any in your area but be careful and vet them hard! My family sent one pony to a yard they thought was respectable because they were a Grand Prix rider and.... Wells let's say it had a sad ending! Sent another to end house and they love the service!

Sensible advice above. You should have a written contract that states who rides the horse and how often. Ideally you should also know the person, their riding style and be in agreement over what you want them to achieve with your horse.

I'm with Booboos - send to your trainer or to someone your trainer recommends. That way the horse will be on the same program and schooled in a way in keeping with what you want to accomplish.

As far as 'guarantees' obviously stuff can always happen but I think someone who is invested in the horse and will continue to have responsibility to both of you is by far the best bet. Even someone who has an ongoing professional relationship with your trainer is a better bet than someone random, as he/she will have a vested interest in having things go extra well.

Ditto the above re regular trainer if you can.

I considered various people, but taking the horse's character into account, I decided he was best kept at the yard with the trainer coming to him. I also went for the trainer who I'd seen in action, could get references for, and who I'd be happy working with when I'm able to start riding the horse.

I would also thoroughly recommend Hurston Eventing and Dressage. Lovely people who both ride and horses are their top priority. Both ride at competition level and I would send any of mine there with full confidence.
