I know this is a bit of "how long is a piece of string" but if you have any thoughts it would be appreciated.

How long would you expect it to take to have a horse schooled from a green but knows the basics to a reasonable standard when being schooled by a professional twice a week. By reasonable standard I mean working in a balanced consistent way in walk trot and canter and able to perform simple school movements.

It is very much how long is a piece of string but as long as he is backed and being worked consistently - I would say about 6 months before you are really happy he has mastered things but then again, it depends on many many things - how intellegent/amenable he is, how old, how green......
the list goes on!!

Why's that, have you sent your pony somewhere? Or are you planning to.

As DS said it really depends on his build, intelligence...

No I have enlisted the help of my YO to school my horse. He has done a bit of school work but is quite unbalanced still. Figured I might get there a bit quicker with some professional help.
