We have just started to loan a lovley 16.2 hanoverian schoolmistress for daughter to ride and compete.
Her owner has competed her to medium level dressage and open level show jumping but as she is 17 wants her to have a slightly quieter life.
She is super talented but not an easy ride and gather she will not work well unless ridden properly then she looks amazing.
Her owner has also taught her little tricks ,she will bow on both forelegs to say please and i am thrilled with her.
Wondering if anyone else has been lucky enough to experience a schoolmaster/mistress in any field..

im very pleased to say ive just got a wonderful 16.2hh anglo arab gentleman ,hes a 17yr old an ex eventer so been there and done it all. hes cheeky ,uncomplicated and beautiful! i feel very lucky:D

17 must be the age then.
Yes i too cant believe our luck.
Apparantley shes always in demand as lead horse or to do pairs x country as shes seen it all before. Hope you enjoy yours too...

I don't know whether he counts as a schoolmaster because he hasn't competed at a high level but I would describe my loan horse as a jumping schoolmaster. It's the fact that he will jump anything you ask him to and if you want to stay in trot he will stay in trot, he sorts out the striding and never stops. He is a 100% confidence giver taking nervous Nellie me to the point where I am hoping to do cross country by the end of the year. He was jumping 1m10 with his previous rider but again he is slowing down so quite happy with me and my 2ft :)

its wonderful having a horse that has seen and done it all- ive had mine from a professional eventer :D oh happy day ,-and to top it off hes the most beautiful dapple grey!!

Ours is grey too, although flea bitten.
After having a quirky mare its fab to know she can and does like to do everything, instills confidence and returns the fun element for us anyway..

Yes - best money I ever spent - he taught me more than a million pounds in lessons ever would and when you know its "you" that is getting it wrong there is not better thing than your super scary big monster....

get it right and hes a baby mouse.... get it wrong and boy does he tell you off.

enjoy - and 17 is not old - just may be a little bit slower when you first get on, and needs that extra bit of TLC - mine is still telling me off at the grand old age of 22 and he seriously is the best horse I will ever own, and tbh if i had had him as a 7 year old I would not have been able to sit on him, let alone ride one side of him

enjoy, cherish everyday you have her,

GW

I've got one. She's 23 now so much quieter life but being 14.2 I've let dozens of kids & teens ride her. She is very genuine but you have to ask correctly. Provided a child is capable of guiding her in the basic direction of a jump she'll sort the rest out. I've had novice children ride her on the buckle holding a neck strap & she'll take them round a course if they vaguely indicate in the direction of the next fence. My daughters 7 & will be moving on to her in a few years when she outgrows hers. And already does a bit with her now.
I was lucky to have training with a psg schoolmaster in a job I had & an intermediate eventer. Both were genuine but the psg horse taught me loads, even letting your hands drop 1/2" resulted in him ignoring you so even hacking him out alone I learnt loads. Without those two my riding wouldn't be what it is, & my pony wouldn't have competed to the level she did.

im just mad for him:D hes come at the right time for me as ive had back surgery so cant ride anything silly or youngsters anymore ,so if it wernt for him id have to give up riding-hes restored my confidence and im still having fun and IM LOVING IT !!:D:D

So pleased for you, ours has already made us sooo happy. Last year was a v bad year and we lost daughters horse so she is almost too good to be true...

Yup, in my signature, he turned 20 on monday, the Batman :). Has taught me everything, partic xc, absolute xc machine. Took a lot of work on the flat but if you do it right, he does :)

Knobberpony is a schoolmistress, and at 21,has seen and done it all.She has her faults, but once under the saddle she is solid gold.If the girls fall off,she stands and waits for them to get back on,she is great in traffic, with farm animals, and I can put my 6 year old on her in a 40 acre field and know she won't bomb off.She knows exactly what her rider is capable of and moves up or down a gear respectively. She gave my 8 year old daughter the best day of her life out hunting last season and hopefully will take her out on many more days.We all love the grumpy old thing and she has taught us all loads.

I have a 16hh (ish not too sure) 12yro hanoverian school mistress. She looks absolutly stunning when she is ridden properly. I have had on on permenant loan for 7 months now and im 15. Only now have I fugured her out. She will give you anything you ask for but she will not give you it unless you ask exactly right. She knows what you're asking but won't give until she gets. It has been annoying that YM can get on and have her going lovely and I can get back on and she just took the p*** with me. A week or 2 ago everything seemed to click and she is going just fantastically for me and I am so pleased with her :)
