Was competing in the JON just on sunday with both boys. Only had mum down to help so it was bound to be a really hectic day! Was on Dr on the pony first, he warmed up really well, so relaxed which makes a change.. so glad to see my hard work is finally paying off! Went into the arena and the neck just seemed to shorten but it was a very correct test so I was resonably pleased, still lots to improve tho. Then back to the lorry to get oscar organised. His test felt better than at strathallan as I rode it in sitting which I feel I can keep him together more. Never sure if it is a good test or not on him!

Bailey was a bit buzzy sj, perhaps too much standing around! jumped a clear round but it wasn't exactly pretty but he helps me out so much, was a bit concerned that he was chipping in on the last stride so much. found out my dr score was 35.7 which was actually very good for the tough marked section.

Then thrown onto oscar, he jumped so well, the best ive felt him this year but had 1 down but it was totally my fault. I seen a very very lond stride and he knew fine he wouldn't make it so we totally knocked it out in front but was fab everywhere else, pleased jockey!

Then onto xc, when walking the course I was pretty confident as they ar both really clockwork now.
Used a stopwatch for the first time to get used to it for blair but had to set it 5 seconds before I left because of my control issues out the start box! Bailey was very wild warming up which usually means im in for a very strong round! He jumped one nicely then bolted as usual, came round the corner to number 2 a fairly substantial tattie box fence only to see the jump judge stomping the ground line, about 3 strides away i had to shout excuse me since there really was no stopping us!! He really flew round the course to make it feel easy. Had a hairy moment at the big log to corner on three strides where we had no reins to the corner but onward we went! after coming down the hill from the main park he was running to the skinny brush fence and stupid me never set him up correctly. a stupid unnecessary run out ALL MY FAULT! came round and popped it nicely. flew the rest foot perfect. I WAS GUTTED. turned out i would have been 2nd i think.

Oscar jumped a nice round with only one heart stopping moment 3 from home and a log parallel where he pecked on landing from a crap stride into the fence and the ground got very close to us very quickly, fortunately he picked himself up and we carried on.

to conclude. oscar was 8th and bailey 10th with his run out. I keep replaying it over in my mind and theres no doubt that it was my fault. he didn't deserve to have a 20 as his season has been faultless this year. it may seem like i am making a big deal about it but if this silly run out costs me the chance of going to weston park I will be devastated!

have a look at both boys pics

Well done, such a shame about your run out on Bailey.

Was lovely to meet you and both your gorgeous ponies. Good luck with your prep for Blair.

, clever ponies. I can imagine how gutting it must be - its often when you think a course is quite straight forward that you have a really really dumb run out though! I did this at the Area's, I had got past the scary fences so was just on "cruise" mode home and then Tinto ran out at a really simple narrow fence two from home all because I didnt set him up right! As my mum says - don't stop riding until you finish!

You not doing Aswanley? Probably a bit busy with Blair?

got a jrn training day on saturday so wont make aswanley, wouldn't want to run him again, needs to be wrapped in cotton wool now! at least il be razor sharp for blair now, wont be letting that happen again thats for sure. tinto going?

I was fence judging at fence 1 and managed to take a couple of pics - can post them if you like?

Bit hairy about the fence judge, but I have to say we were very aware that she was unlikely to hear our whistle. My mum was in charge of the whistle and was very stressed. It was a bit of a main thoroughfare from the trade stands to the cross country, so we spent most of the day trying to avoid having anyone run down. At one point, she had to blow the whistle TWICE at a lady, I also shouted at her, she still carried on crossing behind the fence, luckily the starter saw this and was able to call the rider back and re-start him.

Apart from this it was a great day from our perspective, we could also see the horses finish and all looked well

i couldnt believe that she never moved. think there was definately alot of noise and that but theres only so much that a fence judge can do to give people warnning!

if you have pics that would be lovely!

As you know D - I was there at the time, and shouting at her to move!!!

To be fair though, there was a sharp turn round the marquees from fence 1 to 2 and the fence judge at 2 only saw you coming about one second before you were at the jump!!! (You were really going for the time I know!!)

I would not have liked to be the fence judge there - it was a very big question for fence two,(big square potato box at max height) and there was no sight of it until you were nearly on it!!!

Fence judge couldn't see either fence one, or hear anything because of the generators from the trade stands!

Not very relaxing for her!!!
