Scoot Boots?

Was looking to get my Welshie some hoof boots after she got a sore stone bruise this summer, but am overwhelmed with how many types there are!

I quite like the look of Scoot Boots as will only be used for our hacking and we do a lot of hill work/rivers/ect so need something durable that won’t become too heavy if wet, and that won’t break the bank too much! And that are easy to come across in the Uk as I will more than likely measure wrong and get the wrong size…

Any recommendations or advice on getting the right size would be much appreciated.

Ask Hoofbootique. You don’t have to buy from them to benefit from their advice. You just need to send them photos of hooves and measurements. You can also get a trial of 3 different sizes to try on.

You can also get hoof boot shell fit kits, which allow you to trial a few for size before committing. Again, both HoofBootique and Urban Horse will stock these

Keep an eye out on second hand sites too. There are a few FB sites where you can often get nearly new boots as people have bought the wrong size or their horse’s hooves have changed shape.

Yes I definitely recommend hoof boutique .(or urban horse but I used the other) I wanted scoots but they wouldn’t work on my horse which I didn’t know until I spoke to hoof boutique. I thought they looked ok but she explained why they wouldn’t be suitable. I ended up getting easyboot gloves.

I had a look at the website and asked for shells for neater boots I liked the look of as I’ve used old macs before and thought that style might be too clumpy for my current horse.

I found Urban Horse was quicker to respond than Hoof Boutique. I think the service and prices are comparable.

Hoof Boutique helped me. The best boots are the boots that fit the hoof properly. First suggestion they had were Flex boots which works perfectly for mine (apart from now but I think some false sole has come off and horse is extremely sore even with boots). Both vet and I did a boot fitting day for our horses and we both aren't fans of the scoots - don't like the hard plastic but...if the horse likes them and they fit the shape of the hoof properly, then who I am to say? Anyways flex boots makes my horse go from slow, pokey/stabby in his gait, and tense to much more relaxed, moves out, and immediately get a heel-toe landing.

I have scoots they are great. It's worth getting mud straps and shims if you are doing a lot of hill work and muddy stuff

I have scoots and like them but recommend mud straps on front hooves if you are off road.
Be very careful on secondhand from Facebook, check out the seller very well as there are a lot of scammers infesting the hoof boots for sale pages, asking for friends and family PayPal and vanishing with the money.

I’m looking at scoots for my boy as well, once he stops growing, he was fitting into my friends size 6s during the winter but not sure what size he will be now. A few friends have them and they swear by them but agree that the mud straps are a must ?

I had scoots for my TB, great boots. Have seen via Urban Horse that Scoot are bringing out a boot with adjustable straps over the heel soon.

I'm after a pair of size 4's for mine.

Have a pair of Flex's; haven't had the best of success with them. They've shifted and come off in WALK let alone anything else, and also we were cantering recently in long grass and one of them undid itself and came off. Thank goodness pony is a chilled little soul. I really have serious issues with the (IMO) totally inadequate stud fastening system on them.

First time I used mine I did them up as shown with being able to get fingers inside etc & both came loose on the front and pinged off. Ever since I've done then up tighter and had no issues at all ?

For a first time boot user I would have a look at Cavallo's - they are very forgiving on the sizing (which is really key for a thin close fitting boot)
Yes they are a touch clumpy but I talked to my physio about this and she thought the tiny bit of extra work out for his shoulders was a good thing

Because many use for first boots then move on there's a massive second hand market. You can pick up a worn but usable pair for £30-50 and if only used 3-4 times a week they could last a year.
Mine has some feather and I find anything with thin plastic straps over the heel bulbs rubs him.

I've never moved on from cavallos as I've never needed to
