just wondered about this...

I've been doing unaff dressage all summer and fairly consistently in the 60's with several placings including Oldencraig which, if you know it is a fairly hardcore dressage venue.

I just wondered those of you that have made a recent transition to BD what made you and how much did your scores change?

Where you working at Novice and above before you registered or did you just go for it?

I am determined to do one discipline at affiliated level and hopefully eventually BE but... starting on the flat may be safer on my mare!

I personally didn't find much a difference, last year I did unaffiliated prelim and novice, then affiliated in June of this year and went straight in at novice level. Over the winter I will be doing dropping down to do 1 prelim and 1 novice at competitions as won't be riding as much due to uni.

The most obvious difference is obviously the judges , which at unaff. dont have to be BD trained. So many venues that are good will still use BD judges so that competitors get an honest idea of what you are aiming for.
For me , i use the same marking critera but will explain a bit more the marks, so hopefully making sense of the score and encouraging people to improve and go on to do affil. dresage.

Would it be rude do you think to phone up a venue and ask if the judge is BD trained?

If my 60% +ages are by a BD judge then maybe I won't make complete fool of self at BD event... might risk it on a ticket...
