Absolutely fantastic result for your first PN Shame about the silly xc mistake but you know the reason and sounds like it was just one of those things.
Awww I hadn't realised that dressage was tense for a reason... I'm afraid I'm a total control freak at events and don't let anyone do stuff until I'm finished
Like everyone said, that's a brill first PN. I think Hopetoun PN is lovely too, so I hope there isn't even a shadow of a doubt you'll be entering that? Unless you were planning Novice?
well done you must be really pleased for your first PN, and the xc wasn't the easiest! I think i saw you showjumping...very lovely looking horse she is
(D_K sends his sympathies to Mr. F, he knows exactly what its like to be on the receiving end of a stressed out dressage diva, personally I am taking your side)
Thanks for that photo - she gave that plenty of air didn't she! He's been ok over trakehners so far, it's more open ditches. Think trakehners are more rider frighteners. I do like hopetoun and it fits in well with other events i was planninjg so maybe just need to bite the bullet! Maybe see you there?!
TPO- thank you! You have until 3rd July to think up a good excuse to avoid catching us in action next! Hope your two are good.
Babybear- thanks, this will be you and your boy in a couple year's time?! And I think I have my lovely jumping saddle to thank for my lower leg- if you compare to the training day photo I posted for soupdragon, it's not so enviable in my old saddle!
bogpony- ha ha, "go ponies go" indeed! We still haven't managed to finish it...! Thank you, Hopalong was definitely awesome, I just tag along for the ride. I hope you've stopped beating yourself up about your blonde moment, you can go back next year to put it right. It is indeed a lovely event and I agree that it's one of the nicest presented and most creative XC courses I've seen, every fence was well thought out and interesting.
daveismycat- , thank you! Yes, she just loves her jumping and I certainly don't have to worry about anything looking big, as she has more than enough scope! I will do my best to make the next one a DC...!
Britestar- are you sure you've looked at any of my stressage photos?! I most definitely do not smile in them, gurning and pulling as grumpy a face as "Huffy Hopalong" in the dressage! The only smiley ones are after the final halt when it's all over! We both love the jumping part, I genuinely have a blast riding her XC, she's so fun.
spookypony- thanks, I trust her 110% and she is so clever with her jumping, I just need to concentrate on getting her to the right place at the right pace. (and keeping my flipping legs on when she goes "eeek" at spooky logs! )
MegaBeast- cheers, it is better than having had a real issue and I am just pleased the rest of the XC went well, it's given me loads of confidence to have got round and now know we can do it so long as I'm on the ball.
AR- you are right, I cannot imagine doing this with any other pony.
n_l_m- I shall return to 100% control freak in the future! Ha ha, very funny, was most certainly not considering Hopetoun novice!!! Unless you wanted to take her round...?! PN will test us fine enough I'm sure! Non-riding Oatridge party sounds fab- we can chill out and relax all day, not just the hours after finishing riding and being able to breathe again!
bryonyjane- thank you. I know we weren't the only ones not having the best of luck at no.12, heard a few bits of commentary over the tannoys with it being mentioned! Were you riding? You will have to shout hi if you see us around again.
alwaysbroke- thank you, I'm sure D_K and Mr FJ could spend hours trading "diva rider" stories and we could do the same with "unhelpful OH" stories! He's only back in the good books thanks to his lovely photos!
measles- afraid I have a hair appointment on Sat and heading up to Aberdeen to visit my folks on the Sun, so no trips to the "dark side"! I take it you guys are? Good luck! Is the new girl going too?
kerri- thank you. She got lots of carrots, and pears too! (they're her favourite!) Were you up on Friday? I thought I saw you heading over to walk the XC and shouted your name, but it either wasn't you or you didn't hear me! How did you and your boy get on?
punk- thanks! Have you still not found a rider for B? I so wish I was a foot shorter and half the weight...! Have added pics to other thread for you!
soupdragon- I'm sure you'd be fine at Hopetoun PN, it's a really nice event and you'll have already had a good first PN run at Hutton! I've always been told to just ride them like a rail and ignore the ditch! Just have to hope the horse does the same...! Legs will be on for sure this time! See you there!
wooo! thats a great result at a new level the stop on the XC is just one of those things- i've had loads of stops that were avoidable but my brain never connects with my legs quick enough
i would have become super stressed and turned into megabitch over the number... hence why i am a control freak and have to do everything myself
well done figjam!! great report & pics the more i think about Scotsburn the more disappointed i am in myself, need hoof up bum!!! Think she needs lots of XC practise at HPs etc before next event but i cant find any x
diggerbez- cheers, my leg-brain connection was also on a go slow! And yes, control freak mega bitch will return for Hopetoun!
jumpingkanga- thank you. Yes, the jumping is what it's all about, it's just so frustrating with the dressage as I know it could have been so much better, she was going so nicely in my lesson on Thurs. At least this time I know it was definitely my stress contributing to it so can be fixed for next time (hopefully).
ABE- oh no, I left before you jumped, what happened? Hopefully nothing too bad and I'm sure you'll find summat to go round. What was planned next?
I went into the Sj and jumped like a ****, honeslty dont remember a time ever riding that badly and had 20 pens when we normally go clear SJ then XC i rode much better but E at no 6 the easiest jump on the course but the jump judge didnt get out to tell me i was E so i got her over it and went on did no 7 then got pulled up at 8 so glad i actually got her over it but soo soo fustrated as i know its a napping issue she basically got to the top of the hill and thought oh im far from my friends and when i turned right to the jump she just continued right to try run off back down the hill, she is only 5 i must remind myself of that but cant help being a wee disappointed with her as its well within her capabilities!! Next stop was meant to be area 22 at Burgie on 11th July but not sure i should enter now......
Does anyone know who was photoing other than peak?
ABE- Aw, don't feel too disheartened. If I had a 5 yr old, there's no danger I'd have so many clear rounds, you've no idea how many "fences left standing" need to be attributed to Hopalong, even with my best efforts to hinder her! Real shame about the XC, but like you say, she's young and will learn that it can be fun leaving your pals for 5min!
No idea who the other 'togs are, but would like to know as Mr Peak actually admitted to Mr FJ that he doesn't bother snapping me any more! Even though he may well catch me at a different fence that I like?!
Nic- cheers. Hope the boy is doing ok. I think (given what I've written above!) I'll need to put "careful, snappy front feet" a smidge above her very cute bat-ears! Especially on some of the strides I put the poor pony on...
Ems207- Thanks! Really hope we catch you out Bopping soon, maybe Strathallan?
We are def going to strathallan, will you be the day before us as doing the PN?
Having this weekend coming off as been out and about last four so I need a rest! This week Il be planning what next before strathallan so maybe see you before then.
Yup, unless summat goes majorly wrong will be aiming for PN (was going to be our 1st PN run until Scotsburn came along!), forgot it would be diff day. Not fancy doing the PN just so you can chum us?!
great report blooming well done - you'd never get me going over things like that - you're blooming crazy - the lot of you lol!
figjm - i have a comp report from yesterday - i know i've been quiet for a while but showing reports always seem boring so i don't bother =- but this one is a good one
As I am almost walking distance from strathallan il pop over to see team hopalong on the sat and cheer on you guys.
I am going to miss the chance to get papped by Mr figjam tho! booooooo - maybe at Gleneagles XC if your heading to that? Harry was at a poop jump yesterday! I wanted him to be at the whiskey barrells as that would have made a lovely pic
Fantastic report and photos as usual and woop woop so very well done on your first PN
LOL at the brush fence XC, think Hopalong is trying to tell you she wants to jump bigger
posie_honey- Thank you and get typing then, I'm intrigued! Sounds like a "very well done" is in order!
Ems- cool, if no other plans for the Sunday, will try do the same for Team Bop! Did you do the skinny whisky barrel? Harry was there last year, so maybe he figured he should mix it up for repeat riders? I managed to take out the flag at it last year, glad they use very skinny bendy poles!
Pidge- cheers! 1m is plenty big enough thank you- can you imagine if she did that at a Novice height brush?! Surely she'd need to learn how to brush through brush at that height?!
LOL if she's anything like Pidge then no, he has absolutely no intention of brushing through a brush fence whatever the height so don't think there is any hope for Hopalong doing the same
Hmmm... that's what I figured! Problem is, that makes brush fences in PN a possible 1m20 for us!!! And GOK what the height of those middle bits were, as I'm sure the max brush height relates to the bit you're supposed to jump! Just as well she loves to jump, eh?!
Good report and photos. These hiccups on records only matter if you're planning on selling for a profit (as someone told me after an especially bad one)
Ha ha- at 19years "young" and with more lumps and bumps than you could keep count of, plus the fact that she's worth her weight in gold to me, thankfully I don't need to worry about her record for sale purposes! Thanks though, I'm very lucky having Mr FJ and his camera, even though I wasn't feeling the lurve at the start of the day!
