So I got a brochure thing in the post the other day, I just flicked through it - something about needing to register my horses on some Scottish ID database?? My OH has since thrown it away so I dont have any of the info... what do I actually need to do please?? I dont know if one of my horses is microchipped, Im not about to get him done as he's old and never goes anywhere...!

Im also seeing mentions of some sort of British database - Im assuming us Scots dont have to deal with that as well??

It is a total and utter waste of time space and money! If your horse has a passport and microchip you need do nothing. All it does is provide you with a wee card for each horse that means you don't need to take your passport out with you if you leave home. Totally useless if you go to a venue that requires the flu vaccs to be checked!

I never recieved one and I have Shetlands registered with the SPSBS in Perth along with others registered with other societies in England.

What I would like to know is how, under GDPR, they got people's addresses.

I do know of a couple of people that have either never had horses or haven't had them in over a decade who have recieved the flumf in the post.

If you want to look into it BHS Scotland will tell you about it.

As far as I am concerned it's a waste of money. The people it is aimed at will never comply and won't be forced to either. It's just another way of keeping law abiding horse owners even more under the thumb.

Got one too. This mail shot was just for info and they said there will be another letter following it with "actions" to take.

I thought it was a load of guff but the mothership seemed taken with the wee card idea ?

I dont see the point in a card, when we already have passports which are always taken around with the horse if competing anyway... seems really bizarre. I also wanted to know how they had our addresses... maybe they asked BS, BE, BD and the like then sent to all members? But surely that would be against GDPR. Cant be from the passport issuing soctieties because neither of my horses have British passports.

Ive tried googling it but didnt get very far. Is the whole thing called ScotEquine? Which funnily enough if it is, their base seems to be less than 10 mins from me.

So we dont have to do any national / British type one as well? People on here have been speaking about it and an October deadline but Im guessing us Scots aren't included in this?

I wondered how they got our addresses too and thought it was perhaps via vets?

Almost every horse owner will be registered with a vet rather than a society. I'm sure the covering letter mentioned something about vets too

I never got one at all. So the vets theory i out. I am sure I read somewhere they got it from Scottish Passport Issuing Authorities. But then the Shetland Pony Stud Book is based in Perth and is a Scottish native breed so they didn't get info from them either.

I haven’t had anything either. Looking at scotequine and I’m not sure I would want them to know exactly where my horse was at all times.

Interesting point about the addresses. I got a pack (haven’t read it) and my horse has a welsh passport. My Mum got a pack and her horse has an Irish passport, he’s 24 and has lived with me for at least 10 years. My mums pack was about 3 weeks before mine. Seems an expensive approach...

So it would appear that they got addresses from the central microchip database.

But that wouldn't explain why I never got one as we have 3 ponies with chips registered to us. The rest either aren't chipped (too old) or in the case of Gray I nevergot round to changing it to me ...

Re the addresses- not a clue how they obtained them as my mum got one but I didn’t. My horse is registered to my address now with everything and has been for the last 7 years. My work also received the info and there hasn’t been a horse there for about 12 years.

I agree that it’s totally pointless, it’s aimed yet again at the wrong people and the ones that it’s supposed to be for won’t be comply. It’s just more money for the ones that do go out and compete to shell out while the ones that are selling dodgy horses left right and centre avoid it all together.

Yeah. I doubt I'm going to be organised enough to play this game. I'm just going to have to get fined or whatever. I can manage passports to some extent but anymore paperwork and my brain will implode.
